The North Carolina Advocates For Justice is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association dedicated to protecting people's rights through professional and community legal education, championing individual rights, and protecting the safety of North Carolina's families -- in the workplace, in the home, and in the environment. Our History and Services The North Carolina Advocates For Justice was formed more than 45 years ago by a small group of trial lawyers who wanted to protect peoples' rights. Today, the North Carolina Advocates For Justice has almost 4, 000 members and is one of the top protectors of individual rights in North Carolina. NC Advocates For Justice members represent those injured by the wrongdoing of others, workers fighting for their rights in the workplace, the disabled, those addressing family problems, consumers, those in debt, and those accused of crime. The North Carolina Advocates for Justice accomplishes its mission through effective advocacy work in the NC state legislature advocating for the rights of all citizens, through the development of over 40 professional development seminars annually to help attorneys improve their skills, and through the administration of a variety of public outreach and education initiatives aimed at enhancing public understanding of the US legal system. The organization's Legal Affairs Committee also monitors the development of law and serves as a trial attorney advocate to the State Bar. Through its various Sections and Divisions, the North Carolina Advocates For Justice gear activities and services to specific areas of practice, including: Auto Torts, Civil Rights, Consumer Areas of Practice, Criminal Law, Disability Advocacy, Eminent Domain, Employment Law, Family Law, Hispanic/Latino Legal Issues, Legal Assistants, Nursing Home Litigation, Products Liability, Professional Negligence, Small Office Practice, Workers' Compensation, Young Lawyers. Member Services The North Carolina Advocates For Justice strong communications network keeps members informed about legal developments and happenings through several different publications and mediums. Trial Briefs, the North Carolina Advocates For Justice substantive legal journal, focuses on legal trends and existing laws that impact the trial lawyer. Legislative Briefing reviews the North Carolina Advocates For Justice year at the legislature, and is published annually after the legislative session adjourns. Timely information about the North Carolina Advocates For Justice, its members, and important legal issues is published weekly in BriefNotes, which is sent via email. All Section and Division members have access to their section/division listserv, which is a lightning-quick way to get answers to questions and share news and information with other members. The organization also produces valuable manuals for member use including the North Carolina Prima Facie Torts Manual, the North Carolina DWI Trial Notebook, and the North Carolina Manual of Complaints.
