There are many causes of neuropathy. Several of the most common causes include diabetes, chemotherapy, vitamin B1, B6, B12, E, or Niacin deficiencies, and autoimmune disease, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or Sjogrens syndrome.
Fibromyalgia

Raleigh Foot & Ankle Center is pleased to announce the addition of its Holly Springs office in November 2018. The foot doctors at Raleigh Foot & Ankle Center will listen to patients describe their heel pain. Then, a physical exam will be performed, which will lead to a diagnosis of Achilles tendinitis. Often, we will take x-rays of the foot to rule out other conditions. Ultrasound can also help evaluate the condition of the Achilles tendon.

Bunions
There are a number of causes of bunions, as well as misconceptions about what causes bunions. While shoes can certainly aggravate a bunion, they are not usually the cause of the deformity. The most common causes of bunion formations are hereditary foot structures and arthritis. Other underlying medical conditions may also cause or exacerbate bunions.

Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails can be one of the most painful foot conditions to experience especially as an athlete. An ingrown toenail occurs when the border of the nail curves inward into the surrounding skin leading to pain, swelling, redness. Causes of an ingrown nail can range from trauma, improperly cutting the nail, and tight shoes, to name a few.

Corns
Regardless of where it hurts, you don’t need to walk around in pain or discomfort anymore. Corns and calluses are easily treated. At Raleigh Foot & Ankle Center, we see and treat corns and calluses every day.
Ulcer
If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, inspect your feet regularly. After you bathe, check your feet for any scratches, cuts or bruises. Pay special attention to any areas that are red, swelling or have an odor. You should also look out for drainage in your socks. These are all signs that you may have a diabetic ulcer that needs to be examined by a foot doctor immediately.
Calluses
A hammertoe may occur on any toe and is a deformity which causes the toes to become contracted. It usually begins as a flexible problem, but may become fixed or rigid later. They usually grow progressively worse as time goes on. Often, a corn will develop on the hammertoe, which can cause it to become very painful. Calluses can also develop on the bottom of the foot in association with a hammertoe.
Fungus
Your next six visits are when you will receive your personalized laser treatment. The treatments take place one month apart, over the course of six months. One of our trained laser technicians will perform your nail fungus treatment. The visit should take approximately 30 minutes and is a virtually painless procedure. You will feel warmth on your toes, but no pain. Anesthesia is not necessary for laser treatment, and there is no down time after the procedure. You should be able to return to your normal daily routine immediately after receiving this safe and effective treatment.

Achilles Tendonitis
Also, this treatment is not for everyone. Not every foot and ankle problem can benefit from PRP. Bunions are bumps at the base of the big toe and are often associated with drifting of the big toe toward the second toe. A medical term for the bunion condition is hallux valgus. A bump at the base of the little toe is called Tailor’s bunion, and is treated similarly to a classic bunion.

The laser treatment used in our offices are FDA-cleared, quick and painless. Your first visit involves a consultation with one of our podiatrists, who will confirm the diagnosis of nail fungus and lay out a treatment plan. You may also receive a regimen to help prevent toenail fungus problems in the future.
Hammertoes
A hammertoe will often be painful in tight shoes, but can become painful in any shoe if left long enough, and will sometimes rub against adjacent toes. Initially, simply changing shoes may be helpful, but generally this is not a long-term solution to the problem. Symptoms are usually pain directly over the toe or at the end of the toe in shoes. Sometimes an area of redness or ulceration will also appear.

Ingrown Toenails
To remove a painful ingrown toenail your podiatrist will perform a small in-office procedure. This procedure will remove the offending border and uses a chemical to kill that portion of the ingrown nail to prevent it from recurring. By undergoing this easy office procedure, we can dramatically decrease the risk of you developing an ingrown nail again. The procedure itself is simple and the after-care is easy! After numbing, the ingrown toenail procedure takes about 10 minutes to be performed in the office and you leave with simple instructions for 1-2 weeks of home care.

There are a number of conservative treatment options that your podiatrist will try before considering surgery, which is sometimes necessary. Conservative options could include alteration of footwear, pads or cushions in the feet, or custom-made foot orthotics to provide support.

There have been a large number of medical studies which support the use of this treatment. Over 82% of patients report less or no heel pain after Shockwave treatment.
