Primary Care

X-Rays

Wound Care
We recommend that you go home and take it easy after your surgery. The initial bandage applied after your surgery will usually remain in place for 24 hours. Most surgical sites will then require daily bandage changes for about 1 week. Detailed wound care instructions will be provided on the day of surgery and can be found here. Your wound care requirements may vary based on the type of reconstruction. A list of wound care supplies can be found here. For your convenience, wound care supplies are also available for purchase at the Dispensary in our clinic. You will typically return 1-2 weeks after the surgery for the surgical site to be examined and to have the stitches removed. In many cases we will also have you return 6-12 weeks after the surgery to ensure that the area has healed well.
Joint Replacement
If you require antibiotics prior to surgery due to a previous joint replacement, heart valve problem, or any other reason, please notify our office prior to your surgery so that antibiotics can be provided to you.
Otolaryngology
Dr. Yellin received his undergraduate degree with distinction from Emory University and his medical degree with distinction from New York University School of Medicine. He underwent six years of general surgical and head and neck surgical training in New York City at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Yellin then completed a fellowship in facial plastic surgery in Tampa, Florida, under the directorship of Richard T. Farrior, MD, a world authority in the field of facial plastic surgery, through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). He is double board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABO) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). Currently, he is a Fellow of the AAFPRS, the American College of Surgeons (ASC) and has been an oral board examiner for the ABFPRS.
Mohs Surgery
Frederic Mohs developed the technique known today as Mohs micrographic surgery during the 1930s. His technique was extensively refined over the following decades. Today it is considered the most effective treatment for most types of skin cancer. For many skin cancers the success rate for Mohs surgery is up to 99%.
Reconstructive Surgery
As a patient of Marietta Dermatology, you can rest assured that your skin cancer will receive the highest level of care. We have two Mohs surgeons at our Marietta office. Both are specially trained in the treatment of skin cancer and reconstructive surgery to repair the wound after the cancer has been removed.

Dermabrasion
While it is impossible for a surgeon to cut the skin without leaving a scar, we will perform your reconstruction very meticulously to help ensure you have the best result possible. Most of the healing will take place over the first few weeks, but it will take 6-18 months for the scar to mature completely. Surgical sites typically feel tight and “thick” after surgery. This will improve in the few months following surgery. Massaging the scar starting about 4 weeks after the surgery can help improve the “thick” or “lumpy” feeling of the scar. Occasionally we perform secondary procedures to further improve the appearance of your scar. This may include dermabrasion or laser therapy. There are also scar creams available to further improve the appearance of your scar. For your convenience we offer scar creams for purchase within our Aesthetics Center.

Acne Treatment
Ulcer
SCC is the second most common type of skin cancer. This skin cancer often looks like a firm bump, scaly patch, or an ulcer that heals and then re-opens. SCC is usually reddish in color. It tends to form on skin that gets frequent sun exposure, such as the rim of the ear, face, neck, arms, and trunk. People who have light skin are most likely to develop SCC, but it can also develop in dark-skinned people, especially those who have scarring. Because SCC can grow deep, it can cause damage and disfigurement. Early treatment can prevent this and stop SCC from spreading to other areas of the body.

Lesions
Photodynamic therapy or blue light therapy is an FDA approved treatment for actinic keratoses. Actinic keratoses are pre-cancerous lesions that have a chance of transforming into squamous cell carcinoma. Prior to the procedure, aminolevulinic acid is placed on the skin that will be treated. The area is then exposed to blue light that activates the medication and destroys the pre-cancerous lesions. There are several treatments for actinic keratoses, and your Dermatologist will recommend the best treatment for you. The benefit of photodynamic therapy is that several pre-cancerous lesions can be treated at the same time.
