Tracy H. Laird, M.D., was raised in Anchorage, Alaska. For college she attended the University of California at Davis, where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and a Magna Cum Laude graduate. She received her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and was the recipient of the AOA Scholarship for Academic Excellence. She was also a founding member of the Tulane chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association. After medical school Tracy moved to Houston for residency training in Pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital at Baylor College of Medicine. There she completed two fellowships, one in Pediatric Cardiology and one in pediatric advanced cardiac imaging. While in Houston she also met and married her husband, Penn Laird II, M.D.

We take care to reinforce your role as your patient's primary care physician and our role as a cardiac consultant.
Electrocardiogram
The heart beats because of the flow of electricity within the heart. An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a simple test that measures and records the heart’s electrical activity. An EKG shows the details of your child’s heartbeat, including rhythm (steady or irregular) and rate (fast or slow). It also shows the timing of heartbeats as the chambers squeeze and relax with each heartbeat.
Immunizations
At this time, the recommendation of the physicians at Pediatric Heart Specialists is that all children, including those with congenital heart disease, receive the COVID 19 vaccination, if eligible by age.

Ovarian Cancer
Holly was born and raised in Texas. She has worked with pediatric patients from premature infants through young adults since 2003. She is passionate about working with children and families that are affected by heart disease and has a special interest in fetal cardiology. Board certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin in 2003 and her Master of Science in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University in Dallas in 2009. After completing her bachelor’s degree in nursing, she worked as a registered nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas for six years. After graduating as a pediatric nurse practitioner, she worked in primary care at Pediatric Associates in Wylie. She joined Pediatric Heart Specialists in April of 2011. Holly and her husband, Cory, have three beautiful children, one of which has complex congenital heart disease. Being a heart mom gives Holly the ability to relate to and support her patients and their families in a unique way. When not at work, Holly enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exercising, and watching sports, especially football. As an ovarian cancer survivor, she also enjoys giving back to this population through her nonprofit organization. Holly is proud to be back with the Children’s Health organization where she started her nursing career.

Ultrasound
A fetal echocardiogram (or “echo”) is a safe, noninvasive test of your unborn baby’s heart. Our highly trained ultrasound sonographers specializing in fetal echocardiogram can see how the heart is developing and can determine if medical intervention is necessary.
MRI
Dr. Blalock grew up in Marshall, Texas. She attended the University of Notre Dame and earned a degree in Spanish and Pre-professional studies. She spent her sophomore year in Spain as part of a Notre Dame collaboration with an international school. She finished medical school at Texas A&M College of Medicine. She completed pediatric residency at Arkansas Children’s Hospital where she earned the award for excellence in critical care. She finished her fellowship in pediatric cardiology at UT Southwestern / Children’s Medical Center Dallas. She then moved to Boston and acquired additional training in echocardiography and cardiac MRI at Harvard University/ Children’s Hospital Boston. After her training she returned to Dallas to lead the pediatric cardiac MRI program and joined the Maternal-Fetal team performing fetal echocardiograms. She is the author of several publications and has spoken at national cardiology meetings. Dr. Blalock is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Radiology

Lesions
Surgical intervention is occasionally necessary in the setting of congenital heart disease. Heart lesions commonly requiring surgical intervention include ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, coarctation of the aorta, patent ductus arteriosus, transposition of the great arteries, and tricuspid atresia. Pediatric Heart Specialists has all the tools needed to make an accurate and informed diagnosis, and when necessary, refer your child for further surgical care.
