Overall

The owner, Jessica, owns the Plainsboro and Voorhees locations. I have attended classes at both locations and observed both communities and operations. Unfortunately it is quite obvious the Voorhees location received preferential treatment. This may be due to the larger member-base, but it has gotten to the point where I am seeking out other places to practice. 1. The teachers at Plainsboro all have commutes over an hour, so classes are cancelled much more often when there is inclement weather or the threat of weather. Voorhees will only have a few classes during the day cancelled -- at least having the option of attended. If this is due to staffing, you should honestly make an effort to recruit/require SOME staff to be located close to the location. We are paying hard earned money and honestly do not feel I am being offered a fair opportunity. You should have a business plan where you can either have a local staffer on call if others cannot commute in, or find another workaround. During heavy rains, or just bad traffic days, they have also used the 'commute' as an excuse. If we are paying memberships up front, this should not be happening. 2. Plainsboro packs the room, whereas Voorhees offers more classes and limits the # of attendees. Again, partially due to poor staffing planning. More staff, more class offerings, smaller classes. I have arrived early, picked my spot in the room, only to have another 10 people arrive within the last 2 minutes before AFTER class is SCHEDULED to start. The staff asks us to shift our mats to make room. Understandable. However on several occasions I was already as close to the wall as possible and still told to move over, REPEATEDLY. When I said that I would hit the wall with any movement I made, they told me that on the poses where I face the back wall I will have some mobility. Unprofessional. 3. Number of class offerings is limited compared to Voorhees. Especially weekends. Again comes down to poor staff planning. They don't want staff w/ long commutes to spend the entire day at the studio so they only offer 3 classes. 4. Memberships. Membership rates have increased. Voorhees changes locations so the prices have been adjusted to compensate for the new rent, the 'lounge/cafe' options at Voorhees. But these costs are being passed through to Plainsboro as well. Again, poor business model 5. Class times. In the summer Plainsboro shifted their schedule, half hour earlier or half hour later. Sometimes they switch them back, sometimes not. Either way it is with limited notice. For those of us with full time jobs, a half hour is a big difference, ie 4:30 vs 5, 5 vs. 5:30. Just because your staff may prefer summer hours this may not be the case for you clients. I have spoken with the community, and many of us 'negotiate' schedules with our employers and when you change the schedule, you make it difficult or impossible for us to attend the few classes that fit our schedule. We find this disrespectful of our time.

To give where it is due, the staff teach a great class. I come out of the class having a good practice. However, this is entirely negated by the fact that all of these items illustrate a lack of respect for the Plainsboro yogis and I am disappointed. There is a different demographic at Voorhees, so I do not know if that is the reason or if it is bc the owner may not have a good grasp on what is going on at Plainsboro via feedback. I have begun commuting a longer distance just to attend class at a location that is more respectful of my money and time commitment. This was a great location, but it has gone downhill with the poor staffing strategy, limited class schedule, large class size and ever increasing price. I am truly so disappointed that my friends and I have committed to finding a new community that is more respectful with a little more integrity.
