Mr. Transmission

When the transmission completely went out on our daughter's 2001 Ford Taurus, it was towed to the Ford dealership. They wanted to completely replace the transmission with a "new" rebuilt transmission at a cost of approx. $3,300, which would include a 36 month/36,000 mile warranty. After exploring other options that might cost less, we decided to have the existing transmission rebuilt instead. I called 3 places in Pineville, including Mr. Transmission, and all of them quoted approx. the same price of the low $2,000's for a total rebuild. Mr. Transmission, however, was the only one who was willing to offer the extended 36 months/36,000 mile warranty at no extra cost. So, he had our car towed from the Ford dealership to his shop. Once the transmission was rebuilt, it took 3 days longer than anticipated to troubleshoot a problem with 2nd gear. It took a total of 6 days to fix, but the manager was willing to take off $50 for each day it was not finished when promised. I would much prefer it take a little longer to get it right than to try to pass it off with a problem. My daughter, who lives in Greensboro, says the car works better now than it ever did before the transmission went out. Overall, we were very pleased with Mr. Transmission's work and his willingness to offer the extended warranty. We took off 1 star only for the fact that it took a few days longer than expected before the work was completely done, but in our case, a job worth doing was worth doing right (which took a little extra time and patience.)
