A horrible litigator, since he lost to an inexperienced homeowner that represented himself in court (https://portal.azoah.com/searchable/314883.doc), and now a horrible collections firm since they've been caught and punished for violating the Fair Debt Collection Act (https://dockets.justia.com/docket/arizona/azdce/2:2015cv00502/914432). You better think twice before hiring this very immature and inexperienced lawfirm.

I'm a homeowner at Pecos North HOA. In 2013, several homeowners in my community complained about our management company and wanted them replaced, but three board members refused to find another company. The Travis Law Firm represented the 3 board members who countered that they had never heard of these complaints. Needless to say, The Travis Law Firm raked in attorneys fees despite a losing effort. The three board members represented by The Travis Law Firm were recalled in July, the management company fired, and so was The Travis Law Firm. Chandler Travis, owner of the Travis Law Firm is a director of the Leadership Centre who offers free arbitration of HOA community concerns. Why does his firm never offer his clients the free arbitration method when they know they have a losing case?

The Travis Law Firm charges your HOA thousands of dollars to send collections notices to last known addresses - month after month, year after year. The charges for collections quickly exceed the amount of money the firm collects. I was treasurer for my HOA and was shocked to see that this had been the case during my tenure. Stay clear of this law firm and seek a firm that is paid on performance or contingency basis.

Shameless law firm

My company managed an HOA in Avondale, AZ. When a homeowner complained that the configuration of our board was mis-configured per the bylaws, the Travis Law Firm ordered me to manipulate meeting minutes from a month prior to reflect a reconfiguration of the board. The move blocked the homeowner from invalidating a motion approved by the misconfigured board during the meeting. It also angered many homeowners present at the meeting who could not recall a "re-configuration". Ultimately homeowners took a stand and my company was fired. I took one for the Travis Law Firm, and I'll regret it forever.

The Travis Law Firm HOA Law Hypocrisy

The Travis Law Firm specialises in HOA law. They make their money by initiating collections against homeowners who have violated their obligations to the HOA. Yet, in 2012, The Travis Law Firm undertook extraordinary measures to shield a rogue HOA board that had violated statutory and fiduciary obligations to homeowners. The Travis Law Firm went so far as to attempt to block the succession of directors to the extent that homeowners had to hire separate council in order to restore their rights. Homeowners were successful, and The Travis Law Firm was fired within weeks.

As a debt defense attorney, I have the attorneys at the Travis Law Firm as opposing counsel regularly. In the last 5 years, I have had close to 100 cases against them. They are, by far, the most reasonable HOA attorneys in AZ. Fair and balanced in their approach, advocates for their clients, high integrity.

Debt collection is a tough but necessary industry. No once likes to be sued for a debt and many take it personally. It is noteworthy to me that Travis's attorneys do an outstanding job of treating all parties with respect.

Run very far, and very fast from this law firm if you have or are considering a collections or general council contract with them. Our HOA fired The Travis Law firm after years of paying the firm more money than it could return from delinquent homeowners. As for their general council abilities, The Travis Law Firm defended rogue board members who unilaterally altered our CC&Rs without approval of the homeowners. A judge charged the board with 2 civil violations for having violated amendment procedures. Despite the loss in court by a novice homeowner who represented himself, The Travis Law Firm walked away with thousands in legal fees. Two months before they were fired, the Travis Law firm attempted to block the election of two board members. Homeowners had to hire a lawyer to unblock their interference with our elections.
