Crowns
When it comes to producing restorations such as crowns, instead of the traditional procedures such as waxing and casting, we now design restorations on the computer and they are then milled from high strength esthetic zirconia at an off-site industrial facility with superior CAD-CAM production capabilities running 24 hours a day. They are then returned to us so that Boris, our Technician can finish, assemble and characterize each restoration according to the prescription. With our all-digital processes the precision and accuracy of the final restorations have markedly improved from those that were produced by traditional methods. Zirconia restorations are stronger, have a much better fit, appearance and gingival reaction than those with metal margins that for so long were the standard.

Bridges
Another mode was to shave down the teeth adjacent to the lost tooth and then to place a “Fixed Bridge” with crowns on the shaved down teeth and a “Pontic” to replace the lost one. This can work well, but if one of the crowns comes loose, then the tooth underneath can decay very fast, making for a bigger problem.
Restorative Dentistry
He then switched disciplines and received an MSc in Advanced Restorative Dentistry from the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. He then won the first Annenberg Fellowship to study for three years at the University of Pennsylvania where he received Specialty Certificates in Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis.

Traditionally when a single tooth was lost, it was replaced with a “Flipper” which is a small plastic denture with a “Tooth” and a “Plate” which fits around the insides of the teeth adjacent to the space. This can often be loose and cause cavities and gum problems where the plate sits.

Dental Implants
The simple answer is that it best starts when the tooth is removed. If an extraction socket is allowed to heal naturally, then the bone and soft tissues of the region that supported the tooth tend to fade away very quickly, even to the point where it can be impossible to place implants. The extraction socket needs to be cleaned of all infection and then one of two things should happen...
