Dental Examination
*New patient appointments consist of a complete review of medical history information, full mouth series of X-rays, cleaning with the hygienist, and complete comprehensive oral exam with the dentist. These appointments generally take and hour and a half and it is recommended that paperwork is completed PRIOR to this appointment.

Oral Cancer Screening

Teeth Cleaning
Dental Cleanings with the hygienist consist of an intra-oral examination, oral cancer screening, X-rays, periodontal probing (measurements around the base of the tooth) cleaning with the cavitron and/or scaling instruments, polish, homecare recommendations, and an exam with the dentist. This appointment takes approximately 1 hour and should be completed every 6 months for patients that do not have a periodontal disease history. It is important to stay on track with this appointment in order to prevent new disease, prevent recurrence of previous infections, and to monitor signs of cavities, periodontal infections, and lesions on the soft tissue.

Fillings
Fortunately, a dental filling can be completed by the dentist to restore the damaged tooth structure. During this procedure, the patient receives local anesthesia (a numbing injection), the decay (damaged tooth structure) and bacteria is removed. The tooth is then filled in with a white, tooth-colored material that matches the shade of the existing tooth structure. Amalgam fillings (Silver fillings) are only used if the filing needs to go under the gum on the back teeth, or if the patient requests to have one.
Veneers
Veneers are thin layer of restorative material that are permanently bonded to the front of the teeth in order to improve the shape of the teeth or significantly enhance a patient’s smile. The results can be very impressive! Veneers can last many years with proper home-care and regular 6-month cleanings.
Crowns
A bridge/ fixed partial denture consists of two dental appointments. In the first appointment, the natural teeth next to the edentulous area are reduced in size in order to be prepared for a crown/cap. An impression is taken and sent to the lab for the bridge to be fabricated. A temporary bridge is then placed in the mouth. In the second appointment, the final product from the lab will be cemented in and adjusted if needed.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
If tooth decay has reached the nerve in the center of the tooth, a root canal must be completed. In this procedure, the nerve is extracted from the tooth and the space is sealed and filled. Generally, we refer the patient to an endodontist (a root canal specialist) for this procedure. For your convenience, our part-time staff member Dr. Carlos Mirabel will perform this procedure on the scheduled days that he is working at our office.

Deep Cleaning

Dentures
A removable denture is used to replace some or all of the teeth. Replacing the teeth is important for eating, speaking, supporting the facial muscles, and of course restoring your smile! A series of 5 appointments are needed in order to fabricate a customized denture. During the first appointment, an impression is made and sent to the lab. The lab produces an impression tray that allows us to make a more detailed impression, which it taken during the second appointment. The following appointments consist of teeth selection, delivery of the denture, and any adjustments at no additional cost.

Dental Implants
The best long term option to replace a missing tooth is with an implant. Another option is a bridge, which is also known as a fixed partial denture. If you are missing a small section of teeth, a bridge is a natural-looking set of crowns/caps that can be cemented in to fill that space. A bridge consists of a fake or dummy tooth with a cap attached on each side. The cap on each side is cemented to the teeth next to the open space and will support the dummy tooth in the middle.

Teeth Whitening
Tooth whitening has become very popular and is frequently requested by patients. Most commonly, we recommend the patient have bleaching trays made and do the bleaching at home. This procedure takes 2 short appointments. An impression is taken during the first appointment and it is sent to the lab. Approximately 2 weeks later, the second appointment is scheduled to have the custom lab trays tried in the mouth and receive the bleaching materials. One small drop is placed into each tooth on the tray and the patient wears the trays for 30 minutes each day for two weeks. It is important to not get the solution on the gums during this treatment. Once the trays are in the mouth, a damp toothbrush or washcloth can be used to wipe the gums so the chemical does not cause any gingival irritation. Tooth sensitivity can occur from any whitening procedure. The patient can whiten less frequently if needed. The patient can also do “touch-ups” every couple months, if needed, to brighten their smile.
