Very untrustworthy. I just got a puppy from the shelter and he ended up getting sick a couple days later. A lady said I could come back to the shelter and get him seen by the vet if need be, so that's what I did. A young lady tested him and told me that the puppy had parvo. She took me into a room where her and a man informed me of his condition, then suggested a vet. The vet was in a scary part of town and looked very sketchy so I called my mother and she sent me to another vet. They tested him and said he has a parasite, not parvo. Sounds like some shady operation going on if you ask me. I wonder how many parvo cases go to Dr. Hillman?

Walking in to this shelter felt very uninviting.. no one said hi or welcome it kind of made me nervous..like the feeling that we weren't allowed in the shelter… We made our way into the kitten room. We loved the kittens, they were very friendly and lovable. But in came an Animal cop? I suppose thats what he was he didn't seem ver happy. He snatched one of the kittens up from his cage and carried him as if he was a dirty rag (two fingers under the kittens shoulders and swinging him) out to the building outside of the back door. I was disgusted by the way he handled the poor kitten. The officer came back in and tossed the cat back in his cage and he slammed the door shut. I felt so bad for this kitten to be treated in such way… The dogs were begging for attention. We walked back to the front and saw the first door to older cats and this one cat..possibly a maine coon had such matted hair i couldn't even touch her actual skin. Her back side was caked in feces. I felt the need to help this cat.. i wanted to foster but i guess you cant foster older cats.. The lady at the desk said we could instead foster a WHOLE LITTER of baby kittens and the mother.. She wanted us to "jump right in" without knowing us… I mean any one could have taken to babies. And lastly, we were about to leave and this little boy picked out one the the puppies.. the lady at the desk was dealing with the mother and son and wanted the Lady officer behind her to take the puppy to the back. The officer gave her a dirty look, slammed down her paper and grabbed the puppy from the child and took it to the back! I mean really! These staff members need to reevaluate what they want to in life. None of them seemed to want to be there. I was pretty upset.

Below are two links to stories...

Below are two links to stories about a mistake made at ECAS and in reading the comments, this is not the first time. This could be your family pet...be careful in picking your vet.

Escambia County needs to make big changes to the County Animal Shelter. There is no excuse for what happened to this family's dog yesterday. The Shelter was informed of a scheduled pick up for Saturday. ECAS put this family dog to sleep Friday morning. The owners are heartbroken. Dogs can sometimes get loose and most of the time dog owners are fortunate to get them back before Animal Control gets them or worse. This dog owner was relieved to learn ECAS had their dog...sadly, ECAS is not a safe place for our pets. They continue to prove that with the continued reports of abuse and now THIS!

Please please please microchip your pets. Spay/Neuter

After searching this site for their office hours I had to make an account after ready what this "Penny" person said. I've owned many dogs, a couple from Pensacola Animal Shelter. It used to be you adopted a dog for ~50USD, I adopted "Tooty" the owner relinquished Shetland sheep dog when this fee was in place. She was lucky, had an owner who trained her and brought her in looking decent. Tooty was one of the best dogs I've ever owned. As of recent the fee has increased to just under 100USD (A little cheaper for 3+ years). With the increased fee you now get vaccination (minus rabies), spay/neuter, routine veterinary checks for health risks, and verification of a "non-aggressive" breed. The kennels are warmed, "non-adoptables" are hidden from vision, the staff love their jobs and if you run into one having a bad day there are many other you can request. This is a second chance for some abused animals and it takes longer than a week to undo the damage some owners do unto their animals. A few months ago we adopted Buddha from there, and he was exactly what you described as "sickly", he was down to the bones. We asked about his past and he had been removed from the streets, it was not their fault he looked the way he did. Casting a negative review for a business establishment because you took offense to what things looked like without understanding where your feet were standing makes a good business look bad. I want people to know what you saw may have been so, but some of those dogs are in recovery and it doesn't matter if you scrub a sick dogs kennel every half an hour it's still going to use the restroom.

The Escambia County Animal Shelter was clean and the employes were very helpful and made the process of adopting my two puppies simple. The shelter was clean and the animals looked great.

I think the people at ECACS have a difficult job, but the do it in such a caring manner. They have always been very nice when ever I stop in. Keep up the good work trying to find homes for pets that have been abandoned

My name is Jackson John Stewart (don't ask about the name) and i approved this message, that taking this place in consideration, is an idea. Their services are so divine, and unique. I recommend this astonishing business, for one of the greatest pet shelters, but let me elaborate on the reason, i got rid of my obnoxious little bundle of heart attack, meaning than freaking thing drove me to insanity, but yet i had to deal with it. I feel sorry for the next person to overtake him. His name was pebbles (no relation). Goodbye ladies and gentle men, hopefully you had a chuckle reading this fake review. . You have been PRANKED!

i no not agree with thepennyking.

i've never been here befor but the place may be bad.. but think of the animals and not the shelter. any new animal will be needed to take to the vet. think of how sad they r not being cared for. the ones that dont get cared for are the ones in desperate NEED of your love. definetly adopt from here to get them away from the workers who dont care for them as much as you would.

Very Disappointing

There was diarrhea in nearly all the kennels, and all of the dogs were shaking and looked sickly. Many of the animals seemed dirty and barely cared for. I understand that they are taking care of a mass number of dogs, but the truth is that there were hardly being cared for. I do not recommend adopting from this shelter if you want a dog you won't have to take to the vet afterward.
