When I signed up for my first ever half-marathon, my coaches suggested that I go to Run With Us to get fitted for running shoes. It was there that I learned that a shoe's cuteness factor has absolutely nothing to do with performance, and that while it might look cool to have your outfit and shoes match, it can kill your feet! The expert team of runners and shoe-fitters at Run With Us took a look at my gait and noted the wear patterns on my street shoes. Then they had me walk barefoot, and then they came out with like FIVE different varieties of shoes for me to try. I over-pronate, meaning that my feet tend to roll outward when I walk, so they chose shoes that would correct my gait and give me some stability. I ultimately chose an Asics shoe and have done five half marathons and one full marathon in the same model shoe over the last four years. I tried another brand once but it didn't work out. When I went back to Run With Us to ask their advice, they fully refunded my $$$ and I went back to my trusty Asics with no questions asked. These folks are professional and experienced, and better still, they are avid participants in the running - and walking - community, so I trust them with my feet! Go there! You won't be sorry!
