Oral Cancer Screening
At the maintenance appointment we always inspect teeth and restorations for recurrent decay and other dental problems. X-rays are taken at designated intervals to examine bone levels and look more carefully for dental decay and other tooth-related pathology. A careful mouth examination is performed and we also may recommend a cancer screening. The specific interval between appointments depends on individual needs, but three months is regarded as the gold standard.

Crowns
Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that can create more tooth structure by removing soft tissue (gum) and hard tissue (bone) from the patient’s adjacent teeth (one tooth in front and one tooth behind the damaged tooth). This, therefore, becomes a three-tooth procedure, and its goal is providing adequate tooth structure to anchor the new crown.
Bridges
A dental implant replaces a single tooth without sacrificing the health of neighboring teeth. The other common treatment for the loss of a single tooth, a tooth-supported fixed bridge, requires that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the cemented bridge. Because a dental implant will replace your tooth root, the bone is better preserved. With a bridge, some of the bone that previously surrounded the tooth begins to resorb (deteriorate). Dental implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact. In the long term, a single implant can be more esthetic and easier to keep clean than a bridge.

Root Canal Treatment
People often lose teeth due to traumatic injury, failed root canals or tooth decay (dental caries). Today’s Single Tooth Dental Implant paradigm of replacement therapy calls for implant-retained restorations as the most conservative and longest lasting method of tooth replacement.

Dentures

This technique consists of trimming away infected gum tissue and recontouring the uneven bone and tissue while removing bacterial toxins from root surfaces. Although this is still an effective way of treating gum disease, new and more sophisticated procedures are more routinely used today.
Tooth Extractions
While certain circumstances may still require longer healing intervals, it is now possible to place implants into the jaw and fabricate replacement teeth that can be installed the same day. This can even be done immediately following teeth extractions. The implants are inserted during the same surgical appointment.
Ridge Augmentation
The bone volume may be too small to hold dental implants or loss of gum height under bridges may negatively affect the smile. These ridge deficiencies can be corrected using bone or soft tissue graft techniques. Ridge augmentation is a safe, predictable surgical enhancement.
Bone Grafting
This surgical procedure “regenerates” the previously lost gum and bone tissue. Other regenerative procedures involve the use of bioactive gels (Gem-21, Emdogain) to stimulate new bone formation as well as bone grafting materials and bioabsorbable membranes.
