Electrocardiogram
An EKG is a painless, routine test that measures the electrical impulses produced by the heart. Patients are asked to undress from the waist up and wear a patient gown. Lying down, the patient is then connected to 12 lead wires, which transmit the information from the heart to the EKG machine. You will be asked to lie quietly for a few minutes until the EKG machine captures the data and prints out a reading (“tracing”) of your heart’s electrical activity.

The purpose of a sports physical for school is to determine if a student is healthy enough to participate in sports. It also exists to minimize the risk of sports-related injuries. The sports physical exam is designed to identify any existing—including unknown—high-risk disorder or condition that might affect the athlete’s ability to play or threaten his or her safety. These include heart disease, diabetes, sickle cell trait, and asthma. The physical exam also ensures that your child is up-to-date with his or her immunizations, such as the most recent tetanus shots, the hepatitis B series, the chickenpox vaccine, and the measles immunization.

Emerald Coast Urgent Care uses digital X-ray technology, which uses less radiation, provides fast turnaround of images, and gives us the ability to manipulate images for more accurate readings. We follow the highest safety standards, with certified equipment and licensed radiology technologists to ensure an excellent image the first time and minimal exposure to radiation. We use digital X-ray to diagnose broken bones, certain lung conditions (e.g., pneumonia), and certain abdominal conditions.
