Regular dental care is vital to your pet’s health, and their quality of life. Like us, dogs and cats are prone to developing plaque and tartar buildup if they don’t have their teeth brushed. With time, this buildup can infect the gums and destroy the roots of the teeth. Luckily, prevention is possible with regular cat and dog teeth cleanings at our Ocoee, FL animal hospital, along with daily treatment provided by you at home. Starting early is the key to building a successful dental care routine for your pet, and we’re always happy to help!
Vaccination
You want to give your pet the care they deserve as a member of your family, and our team is here to help! We’re dedicated to educating pet owners so they can be the best caregivers to their dogs and cats, and we’re always happy to answer your questions and suggest changes so they can live a better life. Pet exams are one of the most basic but also important aspects of your companion’s healthcare here at Ocoee Animal Hospital. This is because we can cover a lot of ground, from evaluating your pet’s current condition to screening for disease and administering vaccinations to protect them from infection. Pet exams play a major role for dogs and cats that live long, healthy lives.
Comprehensive Examination
We all know that our pets age at a faster rate than humans. What you may not know is that dogs and cats can often appear healthy on the outside, while having one or more issues on the inside. Pets instinctively try to hide pain and illness, but with routine exams, you and your vet can uncover underlying problems and treat them quickly.
To evaluate your pet’s health and ensure that they remain free of parasites and disease, we recommend annual blood and fecal testing. This includes heartworm testing for dogs, and fecal screenings for dogs and cats. We may also recommend a urinalysis if your pet is urinating more often, having difficulty urinating, or showing signs of blood in their urine.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Pain Management
If we find a tooth that needs to be extracted, our team will contact you to obtain permission to remove it (your pet will be given the necessary pain relief medication to lessen their discomfort)
Vomiting Treatment
Diarrhea Treatment
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
If your pet is itching and scratching like there’s no tomorrow, they might have allergies. For many dogs and some cats, allergies are a seasonal problem and can’t be permanently cured. However, with the help of our team in Ocoee, you can alleviate your pet’s symptoms so they can live a happier, more comfortable life. We frequently work with pet owners to manage all kinds of skin disorders and allergies in dogs and cats, and are more than able to help you find the answers you need to improve your pet’s condition.
You can’t always keep your pet away from places or situations that could expose them to disease, but you can keep diseases away from them with the help of vaccines. Cat and dog vaccinations are an essential part of illness prevention in our pets, but they can also protect humans from zoonotic illnesses such as rabies, Lyme disease, and leptospirosis. Ocoee Animal Hospital offers a wide range of cat and dog vaccines to provide the fullest protection possible for your companion, and we create custom vaccine programs to suit the individual needs of every pet.
Ear Infection Treatment
Allergies in dogs and cats aren’t always easy to treat, especially if your pet has developed a secondary infection of the skin due to scratching and licking all the time. At Ocoee Animal Hospital, we see a lot of skin disorders, allergies, and ear infections; mainly in dogs! But as common as these problems are, there is always a solution.
Pet surgery can be an important and at times, life-saving treatment for our dogs and cats. Our veterinary team in Ocoee can provide soft tissue surgeries to correct or prevent a variety of health problems, including certain types of cancer, benign but disruptive fatty tumors and skin growths, skin injuries, and more. In addition to the surgeries we perform, we also make surgery safety and post-operative comfort our top priorities for your pet. Regardless of the nature of their procedure, we take great care in making sure they are healthy before surgery, stable and safe during surgery, and as pain-free as possible after surgery.
Spaying and Neutering
Based on your pet’s health and behavior, we might recommend a spay or neuter procedure to improve their quality of life. Spaying and neutering are surgeries that, over the years, have helped to reduce animal overpopulation and help more shelter animals find homes. As important as it is to spay and neuter to benefit pets, we recommend these surgeries based on our patients’ unique needs. At Ocoee Animal Hospital, we respect the individual needs of pets and pet owners, and tailor their care to what works best for them and their circumstances.
Looking at your pet from the outside will not tell us what’s happening inside. To understand their health from every angle, we use diagnostic imaging and lab testing to help us fill in the blanks. Here in Ocoee, FL, our veterinarians and staff have access to advanced digital X-ray technology and lab equipment that allows us to perform various blood and fecal tests. Some of the most common conditions we can treat with the help of our diagnostic tools include...
X-Ray
Senior pets might benefit from chest X-rays to check on their heart and lungs if they have a history of heart and lung problems
Dr. Close was inspired to become a veterinarian by her heart dog, Doogan. She rescued Doogan from a shelter in Texas in 2005 while still working as an engineer and found a true calling for veterinary medicine while nursing him back to health after adopting him. Doogan was Dr. Close's greatest teacher in behavior medicine and helping senior pets enjoy their best quality of life for as long as possible. Though Doogan crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2020, he continues to inspire Dr. Close everyday to help her patients lead healthy and happy lives.
