Frontier Oral Surgery

Crowns
Dental implants are an excellent tooth replacement option for many patients because they replace both the roots and crowns of lost teeth. Schedule an implant consultation to find out if this replacement option is right for you.
Bridges
Two to four consecutive teeth – for two consecutive teeth, two crowns fused together can usually be supported by one dental implant, but for three or four consecutive teeth, we will place a dental implant at either end of the fixed bridge (series of connected dental crowns)
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
Sometimes referred to as root end surgery, apicoectomies are performed as a last effort to save teeth following a failed root canal procedure. Root canals are necessary when damage or decay affects the interior layer of the tooth known as the pulp.
Apicoectomy
An apicoectomy is a treatment sometimes referred to as “root end” or “root tip” treatment. If patients experience a failed root canal, we are often able to save the tooth by removing one of the root tips and extracting the decayed tissue.

Dentures
Partial dentures, flippers, or full dentures should not be used immediately after surgery and for at least 10 days. This was discussed in the pre-operative consultation.
Overdentures
Patients who’ve lost numerous teeth or a full arch experience gum tissue and jaw discomfort, significantly impacted self-confidence, limited diet, and difficulty speaking clearly as well as countless other disadvantages. It’s essential that patients visit our office to begin planning to restore their lost dental structures as soon as possible to preserve natural alignment of their bite and restore full form and function to their smiles. Traditionally, patients rely on partial and full overdentures to rejuvenate smiles following tooth loss.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are small posts that resemble a screw. We typically use titanium as this material is highly biocompatible, and has been proven to create the most natural bond with supportive gum and alveolar bone tissue. In fact, research into the bonding process of titanium with bone showed that this metal completely fuses with natural tissue. We then insert attachments known as abutments that connect replacement teeth to the dental implant mimicking the natural supportive structure of the root systems of teeth.

Jaw Surgery
Patients may need jaw surgery for a variety of reasons. Following traumatic injury, the jawbone or muscles may need to be reconstructed to restore function. Jaw surgery may be necessary to prepare patients to receive dental implants. One of the most common jaw surgeries offered are treatments for patients suffering from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. The TMJ are tiny joints connecting the jaw to the skull. When these are strained or damaged, the result is pain, limited jaw mobility, and other concerns. In some cases, surgical treatment is necessary to relieve TMJ pain and renew function.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Although Dr. Karpovck enjoys practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery he has a special interest in complex dental implant surgery, especially those involving bone graft reconstruction.
Tooth Extractions
Not always. There are a number of oral health concerns that lead a general dentist or oral surgeon to encourage patients to remove this third set of molars, but the underlying cause of these issues is typically the same – lack of space. Most patients simply don’t have adequate jawbone space to accommodate four extra molars. Thus, wisdom tooth extraction is the best way to preserve oral health.
Bone Grafting
Patients who would like to receive dental implant supported tooth replacement may need to undergo a preparatory procedure known as bone grafting in order to ensure there is adequate jawbone density to successfully support the implant post. There are many types of bone grafting procedures, but the technique remains the same. Using bone harvested from other areas of the jaw or body, bone from a tissue bank, or synthetic bone material, the doctor attaches the bone to the area where the implant is to be placed. Over the course of a few weeks or months, the additional bone fuses with the existing bone to offer increased density. Bone grafting procedures make it possible for more patients than ever before to receive dental implant supported tooth replacement.

Orthodontics
For an additional two years, Dr. Karpovck continued his education at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry to receive a certificate in the specialty of Orthodontics. Dr. Karpovck is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is certified in Basic and Advanced Life Support. Dr. Karpovck is the only dual specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontics in the State of Florida.

General Dentistry
Dr. Mark Karpovck surgically places the dental implants and abutments. Some patients prefer to return to their own general dental office for the restoration process. Our team is happy to partner with these general dentistry practices, and we are also happy to create custom dental crowns, bridges, and overdentures. Dr. Karpovck has performed countless dental implant placement and restoration procedures, and has the advanced training to offer safe, predictable results for those patients he treats.
