Due to frequently made expressions, etched in lines and wrinkles appear on facial skin over time. These are commonly referred to as the worry lines on the forehead, crows feet around the eyes and the 11s or frown lines between your eyebrows. By using Botox, Dysport or Xeomin you can prevent theses lines from forming and soften their appearance.

Cosmetic Dermatology
Dr. Trowers’ philosophy for cosmetic dermatology is that more is not necessarily better. Over time, due to the aging process, weight changes or our inherited facial structure we all lose volume in our faces over time. It’s just like taking air out of a ballon. As that volume diminishes our faces begin to fall, resulting in folds and hollows. These changes are addressed by fillers such Perlane, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and Belotero. These are man made versions of naturally occurring substances in our skin.
Skin Cancer
Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It can appear suddenly or develop within a pre-existing mole on your skin. On your first visit with Dr. Trowers a full body skin exam is always included. It is offered yearly after that, or more frequently if required.

After graduating from Georgetown University one year early, Dr. Trowers attended medical school at Emory University. This was followed by a dermatology residency at Case Western University, where she was selected to be the Chief Resident.

Eczema is not a true diagnosis. It is the same as asking “What does that person look like?” And someone replies “Like a human.” Eczema is really a catch all phrase for anything that is red, flakey and itchy. It is important to discover the true diagnosis. What has been called eczema is actually an fungal infection, an allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, psoriasis or a number of other treatable skin conditions.
Lesions
Actinic keratoses (AKs) are lesions on the surface layer of the skin (epidermis) caused by chronic exposure to sunlight, particularly ultraviolet light. AKs occur when the cells that comprise 90 percent of the epidermis, the keratinocytes, change their size, shape and/or organization in a process called cutaneous dysplasia. This alters the texture of the skin surface and may extend deeper, into the dermis. AKs are only one of many kinds of keratinocyte lesions, which can be caused by factors other than sunlight (such as chemical carcinogens, x-rays, heat, papillomavirus infection and scarring).

Like many men of color, I experienced challenges with managing healthy looking skin due to shaving. In my profession, it is necessary to maintain appearance with minimal facial hair. Throughout the years, I tried many different shaving systems and skin care products to minimize irritation and bumps caused by shaving. Dr. Trowers diagnosed my condition and informed me of a procedure that would help minimize shaving and bumps, while ultimately helping me to achieve more healthy looking skin, and reduce the cost of expensive razors. However, I became reluctant to move forward with her direction after learning that the procedure would require laser hair removal. My initial impression was that, “this procedure is not very masculine”. So despite her recommendation that the laser would work the best, I asked for an alternative treatment which ended up being two topical ointments. These ointments helped to minimize some of the bumps, however the success was temporary.
