General Info
I care for people who have a variety of benign and malignant conditions, but my clinical and research interests focus on lung cancer—one of the most common cancers in America and the rest of the world, but one that is often underserved in terms of funding and interest. My patients are wonderful people, and it’s incredibly satisfying to help them through this complex disease., As a thoracic surgeon, I see people with all stages of lung cancer. Much of my work is focused on those with early stages of the disease, which is when surgery provides the best chance for a cure. I am also able to help and care for people who are diagnosed at a later stage, providing tissue biopsies and procedures to help control symptoms related to lung cancer., Lung cancer care can be complex and requires many different areas of medical expertise. Therefore, I believe a team approach is best. Our team is made up of medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists, and pathologists—everyone is on first name basis, and we discuss patients each week to facilitate better, faster care., Being part of an academic institution means we’re at the forefront of lung cancer research, with several opportunities to improve treatment using clinical trials and early screening. NYU Langone’s Lung Cancer Screening Program—one of the oldest in the country—pairs CT screening with biomarker research to explore ways to detect lung cancer earlier. We are also experts in the most recent technological advancements in thoracic surgery, which allow us to use minimally invasive, video-assisted, and robotic-assisted procedures, as well as GPS-directed surgery, to help patients recover quickly., Despite treatment advances and faster recovery times after surgery, lung cancer can be a frightening diagnosis. The first thing I tell my patients is that we are going to take great care of them and that their individual needs mean a lot to us. I want my patients to know that they are not alone—we are here for them, not only during their surgery, but also through follow-up and any additional phases of care.
