Large weight losses, however achieved, whether by dietary programs, exercise, or surgical procedure are extremely important in the overall health of individuals and are to be congratulated, supported and encouraged. However, such weight losses may bring a new set of problems which include skin and tissue that is not able to recoil and accomodate the weight loss resulting in sagging and wringling of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Such sagging can be excessive and is determined by the amount of weight loss and the age of the patient at the time of the loss. Often, the overlapping of tissues may create inflammation and irritations.
