Overall

My wife and I contracted with Waring Water Designs in 2013 at the recommendation of a neighbor who used them previously. What was sold to us as a 60 day project turned into a 120 day fiasco. The owner and co-owner up-sold their company during the sales/contract phase making it sound more established than it was. As soon as the contract was signed, it became quickly apparent that Patrick Waring and Kelly Perrine were not in control. They were merely middle men who were not capable of managing a project of this scale using their short list of sub-contractors. They decided the most opportune time to blow the gunite was 3 hours before a large forecasted thunderstorm. Needless to say, the gunite crew got 1/8 of the way through and then had to stop because of the deluge. They then had to come back and jackhammer sections out the following week so they could start over. During this process, they punctured the pressurized water piping which required additional repairs. After one comedy of error after another, the pool was filled Father's Day weekend and proceeded to leak thousands of gallons of water for the next 1.5 months. I just assumed that pool builders were knowledgeable in fixing pool leaks. Not this company. They eventually coordinated a leak detection company who I worked with directly to help isolate and eventually resolve. Having leaked for 1.5 months, my yard was full of standing water which a sump pump running 24x7 couldn't resolve. I eventually had to hire a drainage company to come out to install a french drain so we could put this project to bed. It wasn't until late August 2013 that we were able to get the landscaping completed. Fast forward to February 2014, I advised the owner that the cool decking was separating from the concrete decking and disintegrating in multiple areas. After months of back-and-forth e-mails and missed promises, the deck crew was finally scheduled to come out the end of May 2014. The owner of the deck crew did show up as scheduled but advised that I would need to front the money for the repairs because Patrick Waring owed him for past jobs. He advised that he was considering putting a lien on my property even though Waring Water Designs already furnished a notarized lien release form in Fall of 2013. This was the final straw for me.

If you are currently entertaining going to contract with Waring Water Designs, the above is a small sample of the customer experience that you are in for. As someone who has now gone through this pool building process, I highly suggest you shop around and speak to real owners who have had their pool for more than a few months. If you are already under contract with this company, I suggest that you hold back some of the funds as this is your only point of leverage. Waring Water Design's engagement in the project is directionally proportional to the amount you still owe them.
