Happy Dog Basic Obedience

Rowan helped me claim my place as the leader of my pack of 3 dogs. My "problem child" was my 2 yr. old Cavachon. She pulled on leash, was very excitable, and lunged at other dogs on our walks. Rowan taught me to remain calm and use the proper amount of correction to make Georgie pay attention. The key for me was remaining calm. Now, on our walks. if she does begin to get excited when she sees another dog, I simply make her sit as the dog passes, and then we move on. There are even times (getting more frequent) when we can simply pass by, if I make the correction soon enough. I learned that, for the most part, "it's all about me." My other problem was the craziness of all 3 dogs when the doorbell rang. Once again, once I became calm and assertive, my dogs paid attention, stayed back on their special spots, and gave me and my visitor space, until they were invited to say hello. What a change! I've always loved my dogs, but now I can really enjoy them so much more. Rowan reminded me that no matter how much I love my dogs and call them my babies, they really are dogs, and need to have a leader with confidence to help them learn their rules and boundaries. We have a much happier home now!

Rowan is AMAZING. My 10 month old Border Collie has so much energy that he developed some behavioral issues. In one assessment turned lesson, my dog quit yanking me out of my shoes and could loose-leash walk with me in my yard. I love his philosophy and commitment. He scared the hell of me when my dog was licking his hand and he suddenly yelped loudly and jumped up holding his hands. I thought he had been bitten before learning it was a way to teach a 'people-pleasing dog' to feel empathy. My dog has not nipped at me since.



While I taught some basic hand commands and received good response, Rowan redirected some of my techniques into much more effective methods...pleasing to both me and my dog.



After a couple of hours of Rowan's presence and lesson, my dog put himself to bed in his crate and, 4 hours later, is still napping. If you know anything about Border Collies, you should know they have spastic energy. This is the longest time (except at night) my dog has been still since I got him.



Kudos to Rowan and his techniques. I give him 4 paws UP!



UPDATE: After just two months of working with Rowan, my dog and I have an unbreakable bond and can read each other's body language to know what to do. Cody will run along side me (leash free) while I ride my bike. He has so many wonderful new habits and the 'corrections' have nearly vanished. Today we tried rolling over, speak and catching toys in the air. From behaviorally challenged dog with a frustrated owner to a relationship of love and respect...



I cannot recommend Rowan highly enough to do him the justice he deserves but I cannot imagine life without his input ever being as good as my dog and I have it today...and it keeps getting better!

We've had several dog trainers, and we learned the most from Rowan. We like his non-treat-based training a lot. With the training we received from Rowan, our big puppy is a lot easier to handle. Thanks for all your help!

When I called Rowan I was beside myself. My dog, Olive was out of control. She was causing stress in our family and my husband was threatening to take her to the Pound. Olive was a rescue, we found her when she was a puppy and adopted her without knowing her breed. It turned out that Olive was a high-strung, high energy Pit Bull mix. When visitors came to our home Olive would bark and jump on them almost knocking them over because she was so excited. Olive was destroying our home and would not respond to any command. Out in public she was even worse! At the dog park she would “herd” my son and I and not let any dogs near us; she’d bark and try to bite others dogs as they approached us. It was a nightmare. When I read the Happy Dogs reviews I sarcastically thought “yea right…” dog training would never work for me. To my complete amazement it worked! After the first session, Rowan taught me the first and most valuable lesson… that I was IN CONTROL not Olive. Today we finished our last basic training session and I feel like I have a new dog. Olive follows my commands; she is relaxed and generally seems content. Our lives and Olive’s life has been changed forever. Thank you Rowan for everything, you are the best. I now officially have a Happy Dog!

Happy Dog Obedience training for Leo, our Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, was an excellent experience! Rowan's professional knowledge and understanding of our dog's behavior and interpretation of his body language was outstanding. The personal one-on-one training in our home environment gave us the tools to transform Leo into a happy, obedient, and confident member of our family. Positive reinforcement allowed our puppy to feel very secure and proud of his accomplishments!

I have a 5 month old husky and she was out of control. My husband and I were beyond frustrated! I have now completed the basic training course and what a transformation! She can now sit, heel, lay down, and stay. We learned so much from Rowan. I cannot thank him enough. It was investment in our sanity and it was so worth it! Do this for you and your dog. What a change! My wife and I couldn't be happier with the results we've seen in our young lab even after just one lesson with Rowan. We've had several lessons now and the commands and techniques Rowan has taught us to use have really worked. Our dog is much more enjoyable to be with now that he is not jumping and nipping at everyone. I would highly recommend Rowan Sutton to anyone wanting to improve the behavior of their pet. He is outstanding!

We have a 6 month old jack russel terrier mix and what a difference 3 sessions have made. Lulu is definitely a different dog. Rowan's techniques work and we are looking forward to Lulu's introduction to Rowan's German Shepard so that we can socialize her more with other dogs. Rowan is great. Recommend him to anybody.

I currently have a 1 year old pitbull named Dakota. I have recently rescued her and have noticed that she doesn't listen to me at all. Just to name a few things, she has destroyed my sprinklers, carpet, and blinds. Dakota being an overly energized dog, I was really afraid that someday she may hurt someone with her big claws! I can tell you that Happy Dog Obedience has really helped Dakota and I connect at the same level. She now listens to me and has stopped destroying things around my house. The most important thing is that I don't worry about her hurting others, and i can take her out especially in public:) Happy Dogs Dogs has changed Dakota and I forever and I am so ever grateful! I have had two seesions with Rowan and I have seen amazing results. He is very helpful and answers all my questions. He is very knowledgable about dogs and it shows. I am so happy that I chose Happy Dog obedience!!

I had my first session with Rowan today and my dog Tommy already showed improvement By the end of the 2 hours he didnt attack Rowan as he did when he first arrived and after Rowan left I could actually get Tommy to sit and stay. This was not even remotely possible before. I am really looking forward to my next session. Im even going to take Tommy shopping with me tomorrow to get his training supplies. I would never have done this in the past. I am so glad I met Rowan and I think Tommy is too! Ill let u know how things progress.

When I got Benny, my Boxer/German-Shepherd mix puppy, I decided to do things right. After researching all the other options for dog training in town, I called Rowan. During his consultation he focused on my hopes and concerns for training and got to know both Benny and me a little. He then outlined the process for obedience training. Now, after three sessions, Benny struts around with pride. At only four months old he can sit, stay, come, heel, and lay down. Rowan taught me how to make these seemingly difficult goals happen very easily. This is the best relationship I have ever had with a puppy, or any animal for that matter. Because I put so much in, I get so much back. I am excited to practice with Benny each day and look forward to every lesson to see what we are going to learn next. Also, I take pride in showing Rowan how hard Benny and I have worked each week by showing off Benny’s mastery of each skill. Rowan’s techniques are so easy to implement. My entire household has changed as a result. I have been practicing Rowan’s techniques with my three adult dogs as well. They are all much happier and more obedient. My German Shepherd, who would never listen to me, now sits patiently while awaiting my instructions. We have even managed to keep all three of the other dogs from constantly barking at the neighborhood squirrels. At feeding time we have four calm and quiet dogs patiently waiting for their food. Anyone who wants a well behaved dog, as well as a closer bond with that dog, needs to do their training with Rowan.

Rowan was a great help to me and my little problem chihuahua! I have had dogs all my life and never had such a challenging dog. What I especially liked about Rowan was that he listened to me and helped me with the issues that I wanted to address. Our training sessions were always productive and positive!

Rowen has been great. My wife was ready to get rid of our dog because of her jumping and running wild. Within 15 minutes of our first session, Rowen showed us how to stop the dog from jumping on people. Ever session since has gotten better and better.

If you own a dog, you need Rowan! Our dog is a completely different animal thanks to him. He has extensive experience training dogs of all types and all behavior issues. This isn't a large class with dogs everywhere and one teacher- Rowan comes to your house, and trains you and your dog one-on-one, in your own environment. Our chocolate lab was only 5 months when we started with him and now with only 6 sessions she is like a new animal (we saw a huge difference even after day one!). She not only knows commands and understands what she is supposed to do and not do, but she is all around a more mature and poised animal. He was so patient with us and with our puppy and always professional. I can't thank him enough and recommend him to anyone that owns a dog. Our family is so much happier, and so is our puppy!
