Emailed asking for an estimate and was contacted saying they could come that Friday 11-2. No one showed up after I told my tenants to plan on being home. I called to see what happened and they said they did not receive my email confirming I would want them to come. Funny, because it was in my sent email folder, but whatever. They apologized and offered to come Monday around 3pm. So I had my tenants waiting again but here we are at 8 pm and no one showed up. So far, not impressed. Maybe they just don't want my business.

Thank you D.L. Boyd! I called...

Thank you D.L. Boyd! I called this company in need of a drywall patch around a new bathroom exhaust fan and to construct a bulkhead around exposed pipework in my basement. The work they did was flawless and exceeded our expectations. The workers were clean, courteous and obviously experts in their field. We are grateful to have found a drywall contractor that we trust for future work around the house.

I was put in touch with Derrick after plumbers did a sloppy job fixing a pipe in my ceiling. Derrick was in phone and email contact with me before the work was done and was very attentive. Two men arrived and completed the job quickly and courteously. They patched a hole in the ceiling with drywall and painted the wall that the plumbers had spilled glue on. They left the area in better condition than they found it! The price Derrick quoted me before the job (which was lower than I'd found anywhere else) was the price I paid. I would highly reccommend this company. Derrick also followed up with me the day after to make sure everything had gone well - really great attention to customer service and a really kind man.

High Estimate

I admit I didnt even get to hiring them given how long it took to even get an estimate and how high it was when I did get it.

I had major water damage due to a pipe break in my home. I looked for a company to come and give me an estimate on my walls and ceilings that were damaged. I came across DL Boyd. I scheduled an estimate which was scheduled for about a week from when I called.

I was anxious to get an estimate because there was a lot of other work I also needed to get done. And I needed a good idea on all my costs both to know what I could afford and for my insurance.

Anyway, the morning they were supposed to come, I had to call as they did not come when they said.

Finally, someone came, took measurements and everything and said I would get am estimate the following Monday (note: they came on a Wed). He said maybe I may get it Friday. Friday came amd went, Monday came and went and by Tuesday I called and the woman indicated they had not yet brought in my information for the estimate. After calling a couple more times,I got the estimate via email on Thursday.

Fortunately, I had identified another company in the mean time who came out and gave me an estimate the same day. I am glad I did that because D L Boyd estimate was more than 3 times what the other contractor charged me AND the second contractor had more work as the plumbing repair that I had done after D L Boyd came out resulted in more damage to my walls.

I also compared their estimate to costs online and to how much family and friends paid for similar work and there was nothing to explain the large estimate I got.

So, I dont know how their work is, but I would suggest getting more than one estimate to compare to what DL Boyd would charge.

They gave me a phone estimate ...

They gave me a phone estimate of $420 to regrout a 2-wall shower that was leaking water through the ceiling below. Tile 'expert' says no need to regrout, leak couldn't possibly be the little holes in the grout, must be caulk around the base. Plumber and insurance adjuster were wrong. Okay, he's expert. And, he has said he is going to save me money--caulking is way easier than regrouting.

It took this guy 5 hours (and he did have lunch in his truck during this time, for which I paid $44) to remove and recaulk about 80 linear feet. He used my grout (the shower was retiled 18 months earlier) to patch a few pinholes that I pointed out to him on one wall and said he would patch anything that looked like it needed to be patched.

I wasn't so worried when he reinstalled the faucet incorrectly, which we didn't find out until we had let the caulk dry for 24 hours, so it was another 4 days we couldn't use the shower until they sent someone out to fix that.

The shower still leaked. I paid the plumber to come out again and he found that DL Boyd caulked over the drain on the faucet plate, and not around the pipe, so the water was pooling behind the plate and spilling over into the wall. He recaulked that (took him less than 2 minutes) and we both figured problem solved.

Shower still leaked. DL Boyd has had no suggestions. It was the plumber who suggested that before he take out the entire wall in a bedroom so we could watch the water pour through the little holes in the grout that should have been pached during the $420/5 hour job, that I cover that wall with plastic. Imagine...no leak.

I think DL Boyd should come out and finish the job I paid them to do in the first place. Patch the holes in the wall that they ignored. They should also credit me for what I had to pay the plumber for coming out again and fixing the faucet caulking they did incorrectly. Their secretary said she would send someone out in 2 days, and we would get that corrected.

I was happy until Derek Boyd phoned me this evening. They will come out to finish the job, but I will have to pay them. He will discount his going rate of $88 an hour to $66 an hour, and they'll do whatever I ask, regrout, patch, seal. Oh, and they aren't coming at 8 am tomorrow, as they had scheduled. How about next week sometime?

I contracted them to grout my shower for $420, with the understanding that once they saw the job it might cost a bit more. What I wound up with was my shower CAULKED for $420. At no time did I ever imagine I could be charged almost $500 to caulk around a 3' x 4' shower.

In addiion to telling me that all grout leaks...it is not waterproof, so we can't guarantee that you still won't have water pouring through your ceiling if we do regrout your shower, the owner of DL Boyd tells me that $420 to caulk a shower is the going rate. And yes, I would probably have to pay another $300 or so for them to patch those spots on the wall that the first guy missed. Let me get this straight.....you don't do the job correctly the first time, so your solution is to charge me a discounted hourly rate to come out and fix what I paid you for last week that you didn't do?

If I would like to dispute the $420 caulk job I'll have to cancel the repair until an estimator can come out first to determine if I was overcharged, after that we can schedule the repair. Do I want to cancel my rescheduled appointment and set up an appointment with their estimator? (Do you see how they do business?).

Do yourself a favor. Call someone who won't charge you designer prices for substandard work and then tell you they'll make it right, AT YOUR EXPENSE. If you do hire this company to do any work for you? Pull up a chair and watch them work. I should have done that. Had I stayed in the bathroom with the tile guy, I'm sure that caulk would have been done in less than 2 hours, rather than 5.
