At Cutting Edge Tree Services, we specialize in low-impact tree removal services. We carefully fell or disassemble trees in an efficient and controlled manner. We can handle difficult and dangerous tree removals in all areas and conditions, using a tracklift, aerial bucket truck or tree climbers as needed. Crane service is also available.
Stump Grinding and Removal
An exposed tree stump can be an unsightly on an otherwise stately landscape. Let us help restore your property to its full glory! We grind the stump, any raised area around the stump, and any exposed roots all down to approximately 4-6 inches below the soil surface. If the job requires a deeper grind, however, we are able to accommodate. Where access is limited, we can use a small self-propelled stump grinder that will fit through a 36 inch gate opening. We use a large towable grinder for larger, fully accessible stumps. To complete the job, we remove the low quality stump waste material and add rich black topsoil to fill the void left by the removal.
Storm Damage Cleanup
Broken limbs and "hangers" are also important to cut out of a tree. Whether due to storm damage or a tree's natural process of producing deadwood, we can help ensure the safety and beauty of your greenscape by removing broken limbs still attached to the tree or hanging from another limb. Using proper pruning cuts, we can help decrease the chances of broken, decaying limbs contributing to the spread of decay throughout the tree.
Prune with a purpose: to remove dead, damaged, or diseased wood, provide clearance, or improve structure. Cutting Edge Tree Services makes proper tree pruning cuts in accordance with ANSI A300.

Tree Maintenance
Cutting Edge Tree Services and Arbor Master are proud to call ourselves "stewards of the earth." Not only do we care for the trees we work on as resources, we continually make efforts to better conserve the resources we use to do business in the tree care industry.
Tree Cabling and Bracing
Not all questionable trees need to be removed. Support can be added to weakly attached branches to help prevent failure and loss of limbs. For many applications, we install a Cobra Tree cabling system. Cobra is a dynamic, non-invasive tree cable. It is shock absorbing, non-girdling, and self adjusting. The idea behind Cobra is to allow trees to continue their path of self-support while providing supplemental strength in times of great stress as heightened stress is what causes most trees to crack and fail. Some tree problems can be repaired with one or more bracing rods. When the tree is split but still healthy otherwise, you can safely get years of enjoyment out of the whole tree without worry by installing bracing rods. In some extreme instances, the split may have already advanced to the point of failure, leaving an open wound. If we are contacted within a timely manner of the break, we have the ability to draw the wound closed and install an Extra High Strength cable under pressure. The EHS cable has a breaking strength of up to 15,000 lbs. Timing is crucial, so be sure to call within the first 24 hours of the split breaking open.
Arborist Services
Sometimes the old way of doing things is still the best, although old methods can be improved upon using technology. Arbor Master moves trees the way they used to be transplanted, but using modern tools and equipment. Air Spade technology utilizes a supersonic air knife to safely excavate root systems without harming their surface tissue. This means we can dig up much more of the root system than with the heavy equipment tree spades that have become common in the industry. For every inch of trunk caliper, a tree that is to be transplanted should retain a foot of root radius. To transplant a 5 in diameter tree, you would need a tree spade with the knifes 10 ft apart! With the Air Spade, there is almost no limit to how large of a root system we are able to extract. As we pulverize the dirt around the root basal, we carefully remove the excess soil from underneath the root system. Using a surface friendly loader and arborist rigging gear, we than lift the tree from its original home. At that point, the tree or shrub can go directly into the new site or onto our trucks equipped with specialty racks set up for tying guy lines to trees for transport.
Land Clearing
Cutting Edge Tree Services can complete medium to large scale land clearing operations. Whether you have municipal right-of-ways in need of pre-emptive Ash removals to prepare for the advancement of EAB in Iowa, a commercial property in need of more usable space, or a small plot where you're planning to build a home, we offer competitive rates for large scale mass tree removal. To save your organization or family money we can simply drop and leave the waste for you to process as firewood, an option favored by rural homeowners. Some municipalities choose to leave the stumps of recently removed right-of-way trees because pre-emptive Ash removals are done to eliminate the liability of trees expected to eventually fall to Emerald Ash Borer infestation. By taking down trees that will be hazardous if left untreated to die, communitites can ensure the safety of the citizens. Whatever your land clearing needs, we have the experience and training required to do mass tree removal properly at a fair price.
Tree Mulching
Trees add beauty to any property, decorating the landscape with variety and providing us with many benefits like shade and better air quality. There are simple things we can do for our trees in return, like mulching.
Snow removal is critical to protecting your property and making your business or home accessible during the winter months. We have the know-how, experience, and equipment to take care of your cold weather concerns. From one-time needs to recurring winter maintenance contracts, we are sure to find the option that best matches your particular needs.
Landscaping Services
Furthermore, mulch keeps turf grass that may deprive the tree of nitrogen from growing around the root basal, where nutrient uptake occurs. Good mulching habits have a naturally fertilizing effect when natural mulch is used. Natural mulch is the woody waste that comes from chipping limbs, logs and brush as opposed to kiln dried landscaping mulch that offers little nutritional benefit. Whereas landscaping materials like cedar chips and river rock can be expensive, Cutting Edge Tree Services has an unlimited supply of natural mulch we offer free to anyone to pick up at our Mason City location! We also offer mulch delivery and a proper mulching education service at a fraction of the cost of commercial landscaping materials.
