Biological therapy is also referred to as immunotherapy or biotherapy. This type of treatment stimulates the body’s immune system to increase its ability fight infection and disease. It can also be used to prevent certain side effects of treatments for diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s disease.
Primary Care
If your insurance requires a referral from your primary care physician, please make sure that has been obtained prior to your appointment. While our staff might make a request for referrals as a courtesy, it is ultimately the patient’s responsibility to ensure it is in place prior to services being rendered.
Emergency Care
Call 316-262-4467. Someone at the Physicians Exchange will answer, take your information, then page the on-call physician. It will be helpful for you to know the treatment you are on and the date of your last treatment. In the event that it has been more than 30 minutes after your initial call to the Physicians Exchange and an on-call physician has not yet contacted you, we encourage you to call again. As always, remember if you have a timely or life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or report to your nearest emergency room.
Electrocardiogram
This machine is located on the 1st floor in Suite 100. This test looks at the functionality of the heart. It shows how well your left ventricle is pumping blood to the rest of your body. You will be injected with a phosphate that tags to the red blood cells. This must circulate a minimum of 20 minutes. Then you will be injected with a radionuclide that tags or “sticks” to the phosphate. You will be placed on a bed with a camera head over your upper torso. You will have EKG leads placed on your chest. Three separate views are taken of your heart pumping blood. There is no patient preparation for this test. You will be asked to remove any metal out of the chest area. The total test time from start to finish is approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Cervical Cancer
You have no idea how much better I feel regarding the tumor. I know it probably had nothing to do with the tumor, but I was diagnosed with the cervical cancer in 1972 when they had also discovered I was about 6 weeks pregnant with my daughter. They wanted to abort her and remove my uterus, but upon my refusal to do so, agreed to monitor the pregnancy and take her early if the tumor was to grow. In my uneducated mind of cancer I wondered if the cell implanted in her at that time from which this tumor grew. Don't laugh - it is what mother's think when their child is endangered that somehow they are responsible.
Prostate Cancer
Some types of cancer need hormones in order to grow. Hormonal therapy blocks the production or activity of these hormones, thereby obstructing the cancer cell’s ability to reproduce. Hormonal therapy is commonly used for treating certain types of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Lung Cancer
Now more than six years since my father's diagnosis of Stage 4, inoperable lung cancer, my family and I still reflect often and with much gratitude on the exceptional care he - and we - received from the Cancer Center of Kansas at its Independence clinic. MRI
This machine is located at our Imaging East Office. Similar to CT, this scan can show all of the organs, bones, blood vessels, tumors, muscles, and much more. However, MRI does not have any radiation, and instead uses magnets and radio waves to produce images. Some scans require you to fast 4 hours prior to the scan time (usually when looking at the abdominal area). Gadolinium contrast, which helps show abnormal tissue in the body, is used for most MRI scans. Labs are required within 30 days leading up to your scan if you are receiving contrast. You will move in and out of a doughnut shaped scanner, which can be a concern for people with claustrophobia. If claustrophobic, getting anxiety medication from your doctor prior to your appointment is suggested. The scan itself can take anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on what you are having scanned.

Sometimes the barium can give patients diarrhea. (If you are allergic to sulfate, please tell the Radiology Department and they will give you a different contrast to drink.)

Computed Tomography
This machine is located on the 1st floor in Suite 100. This test looks at the structures within your body. The scan can show all of the organs, bones, blood vessels, tumors and much more. Some scans require you to fast 5 hours prior to the scan time (this will depend on what anatomy you are having scanned.) Iodine contrast is also used in conjunction with the barium for most CT scans. Labs are also required within the 7 days leading up to your scan. Most patients have their labs scheduled ahead of time and will also pick up their barium at that time so you don’t have to check in until your scheduled CT scan time. If not, you will need to be here 1 hour prior to your scan time. You will move in and out of a doughnut shaped scanner. You will be told to hold your breath at different times. The scan itself takes approximately 30 minutes.
Chemotherapy
The Cancer Center of Kansas specializes in the treatment of all types of cancer and blood disorders. Once your diagnosis has been established, your oncology team will create a treatment regimen specifically for you. The success of your treatment begins with knowing you can do this! Knowledge of how chemotherapy works relieves many fears you might have and helps to alleviate possible side effects. Knee Replacement
Gene became a patient of Dr. Reddy in 2010 when during a knee replacement the doctors discovered that he had Multiple Myeloma. I became his patient in 2012 when I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. I was later diagnosed with breast cancer. We were obviously devastated and unprepared to find out we had cancer. I suspect everyone is. No one wants to hear this. So began our journey with Dr. Reddy and the staff at Cancer Center of Kansas in El Dorado. Everyone in this office knows us by name and treats us as if we are their only patients for the day. Gene has had extensive treatment for his multiple myeloma including two transplants and several setbacks. Through his entire treatment we have been treated with exceptional courtesy and understanding. Every question we have asked has been answered in a professional way and we have never been treated as if we were taking up too much of their time. Hugs are given out when the nurses know that we are a little down. They are so reassuring. We see Dr. Reddy and his staff very frequently and they have become like family to us. We know that without their care life for us would be very different. Our children know that we are getting the best care possible from the best people possible and that is very reassuring to them.

Skin Cancer
This machine is located on the 1st floor in Suite 100. This test looks for any cells that are metabolizing and using energy. You will be injected with a radionuclide. It needs to circulate for 1 hour so that it has time to accumulate in the cells. You will then be placed on a bed and scanned from your mid-skull to mid-thigh (in some cases melanoma patients will be scanned from head to toe). All removable metal will be removed from the area to be scanned. Patient preparation is a special diet that needs to be followed in the 24 hours leading up to the date of the scan. No food or drink 6 hours prior to the scan
