Tom's Tree Service

Came out and met with me on October 28th to discuss some tree removal work on my property. Gave me a reasonable quote for the work and I verbally accepted. He told me that he'd have it done by Thanksgiving (told me this twice) as he was booked solid and had already lost a day due to that day's rainfall. Had to ask him to supply a written quote though he seemed very apprehensive in doing so.



I assumed that, like any other service business, he would call to set up a time to perform the work. Imagine my surprise, two days later, when I come home to see the trees had been removed from my property. Furniture in my backyard had been moved and was left out, deep ruts had been left in my front yard, and a gas-powered leaf blower was left on a chair in my backyard. No call had been made to schedule this service and no bill had been left. He and his crew just walked right in and did whatever they wanted to, apparently.



The next morning, we had a knock on our door and it was Tom. Told him I didn't appreciate him not scheduling a date for the work and just coming into my yard unannounced and that I would have appreciated a call. He just smiled and said, "next time we can do that, I guess." He seemed not to care nor understand. I also told him that I didn't appreciate the ruts in my yard. He told me, "well, they had to get big equipment in here. I guess we could put in some topsoil or something." I reiterated that I wasn't really happy with his lack of communication and he suddenly blew up and said, "I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A BROW-BEATING OVER THIS!" and then proceeded to walk quickly to his truck and get in. Before he got in I said, "do you want your blower back?" To which he replied by plugging his ears and yelling, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!" He then drove off.



While the tree removal itself was fine, Tom has very poor customer service skills and is incredibly rude. I wasn't looking for a discount or price break...I just wanted him to understand that hurting someone's yard, going on property unannounced, and leaving equipment on the job site upon completion is not professional or acceptable. I would strongly advise that you look elsewhere in Muskegon for your tree cutting/ trimming needs, unless you like to be treated like crap.
