They must have made a lot of improvements since 2013 as I had a wonderful experience in December 2016. The nurses and staff were kind and considerate. My stay was only one day but it was a good one.
Find another hospital. The level of care, and caring, was abysmal. Nurses who 'forgot' pain meds, for four hours, people out at the nurses station online shopping. After a pretty severe reaction to whatever they used to launder sheets and pillow cases, I was given sheets of paper to sleep on. I had one nurse who was in such poor physical condition, I had to unplug my own IV in order to get to the bathroom. He couldn't fit between the wall and my bed. Gossip about patients gave me way too much information, and that's a violation. Two back surgeries in a week made me pretty reluctant to say anything at the time. I have nothing but respect and admiration for my doctor. I wish he was available somewhere else.
If waiting over an hour to get registered is considered "urgent" and being treated like a number is "care" than I guess they hit the mark. 3 strikes - you're OUT!
My father was sent there last month and I swear we'll be lucky if he gets out alive. First night, he fell out of bed. They put down gel mats like a chef would stand on, perhaps a third of an inch thick. He has a laryngectomy and a stoma. It was uncovered. The little nurse said you don't cover that hole. Odd, but the U of M med surgery team educated us as to why you always cover it. Cover and hydrate. Not at this place. I mailed a bag of covers. They got to his room 10 days later. Dry hospital air, no hydration. Now he's been moved to isolation because they said he has an infectious diarrhea caused by what the case worker called "prolonged use of antibiotics." Who's the drug dealer smuggling the antibiotics in to him??? He is not prescribed any antibiotics that I know of, and as his patient advocate, I should know. As soon as I can get him out of that
hellhole I aim to, and start a campaign to let BCBS and the feds know they have a problem here. It's the worst place I've ever seen that calls itself a hospital.
