Dental Examination
First we will perform a periodontal exam and take xrays to determine the position of the tooth/ teeth. Once we determine the tooth position, we will proceed with one of two treatments.

Crowns
In a procedure known as crown lengthening, your periodontist can extend the height or size of the portion of the tooth that is visible above the gumline. For the stability of your crown, there must be enough tooth structure for it to hold it in place. When your tooth has broken down, or when tooth decay has extended below the gum line, crown lengthening can reduce the gum tissue and bone level in order to gain better access to your tooth.

A labial frenum is a muscular tissue that connects the inside of the upper lip to the center of the gums between the two upper front teeth. The presence of this frenum creates a large gap between the two upper front teeth and can also cause recession of the gums by drawing the gums off the jaw bone. Usually, dentists will advise their patients to wait for the growth of their two permanent upper front teeth before considering the treatment for labial frenum. It is because there are cases where the gap between the upper front teeth is eliminated during the growth of permanent teeth. However, if this is not possible, braces are used to correct the gap. Labial frenectomy is only performed if the braces are unable to correct the large gaps caused by labial frenum. In some cases where the presence of labial frenum can cause pain to the upper lip and gums in younger children, labial frenectomy is performed.

General Dentistry
Dr. Gaither was born in Murfreesboro, TN. His grandfather Dr. Joe Walker practiced dentistry in Murfreesboro for many years and since the age of five Dr. Gaither has wanted to be a dentist. Dr. Gaither attended Middle Tennessee Christian School, and Central Middle School. He graduated from Webb School in 1992 and the University of Tennessee in 1997. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences School of Dentistry in 2001. Dr. Gaither choose to further his education staying in Memphis an extra year and completed Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. After three years of post-graduate study Dr. Gaither was awarded a Certificate of Periodontics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at this program Dr. Gaither had explicit training in periodontal disease management, cosmetic oral plastic surgery and dental implantology. He also completed a hospital rotation at the Veterans hospital in Birmingham in order to be certified to administer conscious sedation. Dr. Gaither has now returned to his home town and has opened a private practice. He is a leading provider of oral health treatment related to gum tissue and dental implants in the South. He is an active member in the community helping Murfreesboro not only grow, but become a place that our children will want to raise families. Dr. Gaither supports many local organizations.
