Cedarbrook Apartments

My daughter recently chose Cedarbrook Apartments because of them allowing pets. (In spite of reading negative reviews). Which will NOT happen again. There is a reason for those negative reviews and mine. So please read this before making a mistake that can ruin the next year of your life! First of all when you come to view the property and you notice all the trash laying everywhere, dont assume that there is this maintenance team that will surely be around to clean up. There maintenance team consists of one man. And when this property manager talks about him she makes it seem like there is no problem that he can't handle. Which might be true if he can ever get to you and your problem on his list. Remember...1 man for all these property's.

When my daughter first moved in she made out her list of problems with her apartment. The main one at the time being a water leak in the bathroom. For over 2 months she had to come home to a sopping wet bathroom floor and it eventually leaked up the carpet in the hallway. She had explained many times to the property manager that she was highly allergic to mold and mildew. They told her they would have the carpet cleaned and dried. Now almost 5 months later it still has not been done. The work that is needed in these apartments is extensive. Way more then one man can handle. We have also told them that the floor under the bathtub has rotted. My daughter says that any day she will be going through the floor of the tub. The maintenance man made an appointment with her but he never showed up to even check it. That was a month ago.

Then if you like to pick your on friends and have your family come see you, don't live here. The property manager is on a Control trip and she thinks she can say who comes and goes into your apartment. Even if it means her lieing and making up situations to get her way. Like phony complaints from other renters. (She has a couple older couples here that she manipulates into lieing for her.) I wish I was making this up. And this the last straw and we are in the process of obtaining a lawyer because Recently my daughter found out That she was pregnant. It was a high risk pregnancy. I had let the property manager know this and said if there were any more problems to not bother my daughter anymore. Just to talk to me. Well her brother just recently came to town and had been staying a few nights with her. Well the property manager found out about this which shouldn't be a problem anyway, and called my daughter at her job and told her that her brother and her mother had to leave the property immediately because they were not on the lease. My daughter got very upset and her blood pressure went up and 2 hours later she had a miscarriage. And when I once again went to notify the property manager of the situation. And that I would be there taking care of my daughter. She then informed me that if I did she would have me removed from the property.

I wish that I could say that I was making all of this up but I'm not. Her excuse for all of her actions is that myself and my son were not on the lease. But I have a home, why would I need to be on my daughter lease. Its crazy. I have never been so shocked with the unprofessionalism of this person. She has no business working in a public setting. And if I could directly prove that she led to my daughter's miscarriage I would sue this entire apartment complex and her. So if my story doesn't make you think twice about moving here then come on down. But I promise.....you will regret it. I haven't found one remnant here that is happy. Just ask around.

Cedarbrooks has changed management/property managers multiple times, and in each instance nothing gets done. I've contacted the property managers about issues with the apartment (no screens in the windows, leaking kitchen sinks, patio needs repair) and nothing is ever fixed. The only things they take initiative on is when they think the apartment is damaged and require an inspection from you! The current property manager is not an easy person to work with. She's forgetful, & doesn't take your complaints or work requests seriously. When I moved in, I was promised that the back patio would be completely renovated, but it hasn't been. The thermostat is about ten degrees off, so I have to set my AC to 80 to get a house at 70F. The heat doesn't shut off or turn on reliably, and it seems like they'll never fix it. My water meter has been running in excess and after the City of Morganton replaced it, my water bill was still extremely high (10,000 gallons for 1 person is insane when the average water usage for 1 person is 3,000 gallons). The current property manager said "it's a priority" to me about 3 weeks ago - I haven't heard from her since. Basically the owners just want their rent $ without putting in the effort in maintaining it. If Morganton had more rental options that allowed pets, I would say do NOT live here. Unfortunately Cedarbrook is one of the few places in Morganton that allow dogs of *most* breeds... Hope you have better luck than me.

Not very highly recommended. My girlfriend has been renting here on a 1-year lease since June of 2011. When she moved in, there were 2 windows with glass missing, this was in June of 2011. Paying $550+ a month for this 2 bedroom upstairs apartment, they have not found the time or money to fix these 2 windows 9 months later in March of 2012. Infact, they have not even placed order for the glass, yet! We cannot run the heat at night, because it never goes off. So, the apartment is in the 40-degree temperature range every morning when we wake up. Upon multiple times being contacted, they have not responded beyond saying they will look into it.



Now, one of the window's frames has actually lifted from the framework of the apartment, so it is handing on by a few screws and you can look out between the window's frame and the wall where it no longer meets together.



They have horrible service, do maintain the apartments. I highly recommend nobody sign a lease for this place, unless you don't mind doing their job for them.
