Moran Superintendent's Office

I'll begin by telling a little about my grandson. He is exceptionally bright but has ADHD and ODD. He has always been a handful but school just brought out the worst in him. He was put on drugs to make him "obey" or else the previous school would only let him go half day. The drugs made him withdrawn so the teachers put him in front of a t.v. and that was his day. Because he fell farther and farther behind he was put in Sp.Ed. He had behavior modification and no academics to speak of. Then I let my pride and my need to have him with me go. I had been told for a couple of years by his other grandmother that the school in Moran was exceptional and how they had helped other children. I thought she just wanted him for herself but it was me that was being selfish. My daughter has special needs also and went through the same things they were doing to him. I could not stand by and watch it happen again so he moved to Moran. Immediatly they through the "special ed" book away. The I.E.P. was to help him not them. He was placed primarily in the 2nd grade, which his previous school would not allow. They said since he has an I.E.P. he has to move up to the 3rd grade and stay in Sp.Ed.



In Moran, he not only was allowed interaction with his peers, he would also go to K class for some things and 1st grade for others. They worked with his strengths and built up his weaknesses. This year he is in 3rd grade with modifications for him but getting stronger every day. His meds have been regulated due to teacher feedback and the great job his paternal family is doing with him. He does homework everyday, the previous school would not even send any home, and is proud of his accomplishments. I too am very proud of the progress he has made and am forever indebted to the Moran School System for giving us hope and to him a future.
