Aggie's Cakes

We ordered our wedding cake through Aggie's. The service we received before the wedding was absolutely fantastic, and the guests loved the cake. They also decorated it very nicely as we had asked. So, why only three stars?



First, we had ordered three cakes, 2 three layer and a 5 layer. The 5 layer showed up as a 4 layer. I called and told them what was wrong, and they replied that the cakes all together did serve 300 people (not thinking about the fact we had paid for approximately 410 servings, so at a minimum of $2.50 per slice that's a loss of at least $275 worth of cake). Since the bigger cake was supposed to have a different type of cake per layer, they asked me to state what the layers should have been. When they knew which was missing, they happened to have an 80 serving circular sheet cake unmade which they could quickly fill and decorate. They brought it quickly with many apologizes. We figured it wasn't a huge loss (we had 120-130 guests, people were going to be able to have cake!), and used it as our cutting cake.



As the night went on and the wonderful staff at the reception hall was cutting the cake, we realized the bottom layer of one of the three layer cakes was wrong: a marble with fudge filling (something we never ordered) instead of a white cake with cream cheese and fresh raspberries. They had accidentally used the bottom layer of that cake as a layer in the now 4 layer cake. The marble with fudge fill should have been a layer in the bigger cake, but it should have been banana cake not marble. I have not told them about this error yet, so I cannot give you an iteration of how they would handle this.



I understand we did ask for a complicated order, but they said they could do it. If there was an issue they should have told us. The man who delivered the sheet cake with apologizes mentioned they had had a few people out of work lately due to illness, and it is a family run bakery so I can understand how short staffing can hurt a business. They should have been much more careful with how they made the cakes though, especially since they are known as a great place for wedding cakes.



So now the main question is: would I order from them again? I think so, but not if it was a complicated order like our cakes. The staff is nice, and the cake was very good. They were able to make a replacement layer and deliver it quickly. He apologized profusely for the error. And, the decorating they did was very beautiful.



We ordered many flavors of cake, I would highly suggest the apricot french filling with white cake or a fresh raspberry/ cream cheese filled white cake. Those were my two favorites. The kids loved the all chocolate one (looked like a black tux) when they found out it would dye their mouths black... I don't regret that one bit!
