Great place to go for your family. The food is great

In really like the restaurant. They always have specials. It's a bit on the higher end price wise for the type of food. If the food was just a bit cheaper it would get 5 stars. It's not the best food I've ever eaten but it's probably the best in Midlothian.

Ellis County BBQ claims their meat is "as tender as your momma's heart."



Uh-uh. Try tough as your momma's shoe leather. And about as flavorful.



Though the places smells wonderful, the meat is very bland. The sauce has a nice flavor, but bbq sauce should complement, not provide, the flavor of the meat. We tried both the beef and the chicken and found them to be quite bland, and the maccaroni set a new standard for tasteless. The fries were good.



The atmosphere misses as well. They seem to be going for a bbq joint/sports bar, but the decor (with tablecloths and faux-leather chairs) comes across as more Papas Steakhouse than Papas Barbeque. They should have gone with something more like butcher paper tablecovers with crayons for the kids.



Which brings me to the family friendliness. Completely lacking. The kids' menu is a bit expensive (though they do get ice cream), and there is nothing for them -- no kids menus to color on, no little games, nada -- unless they're old enough (and inclined) to like football. There are also no changing tables in the bathrooms.



Overall, this one is a dud. You can get better bbq just a couple of miles down the road.



Ellis County BBQ has a lot of potential that was simply not realized. Sorry guys, I really wanted to like y'all (we need another good restaurant in Midlothian).
