Colon Cancer
Unfortunately two decades of women did not receive HRT, doctors stopped prescribing it, and young doctors did not learn to help women with hormones. Most patients that come to my office have not been offered HRT as an option. They are told that it will pass. Just grin and bear it! American studies that have been used to focus on the “badness” of estrogen were based on the now found faulty Women’s health initiative study that utilized Premarin (a conjugated estrogen from pregnant mares not natural to our body that is metabolized into a more toxic product, and used at higher doses than we use now) with Provera ( a non-natural progesterone compound or progestin). Further, in the Women’s Health Initiative study, these hormones were given orally to older women who had been in menopause for years, without any hormone replacement. Indeed under these condition more breast cancers were found in women receiving both Premarin and Provera, and a higher risk of stroke was found because estrogen replacement was given orally as pills, which makes the liver make clotting factors. In this study the risk of colon cancer was lower and these women had stronger bones so that they had a lower risk of osteoporosis-related fractures. Based on this old original study Estrogen was not recommended to prevent heart disease. But most conventional docs interpreted that women in general should not be given hormone replacement, even younger women, unless highly symptomatic. Sadly, two decades of women have experienced no HRT, and as a result more diabetes, weight gain, pericardiac fat deposition, and earlier heart disease. Heart disease causes more deaths for women than breast cancer

I am unique in that I bring multi-dimensional expertise in endocrinology, thyroidology, holistic health, functional, integrative and complementary medicine, jungian and buddhist psychology, and age management. I am particularly passionate about preventing disease and helping individuals thrive as they age chronologically and not biologically. I am trained in the classic western medicine philosophy of finding disease where it is present and manifested through signs and symptoms, doing diagnostic tests to confirm the diagnosis and identifying ways to treat the body’s malfunction by removing what is bad or replacing what is missing. Additionally, I monitor for further signs of disease when the problem cannot be immediately identified, fixed or completely cured. Further, I care about the mind-body interaction or psycho-neuro-immune manifestations of endocrine diseases: how the mindset, lifestyle, nutrition and your intestinal microbiome affects hormone metabolism, immunity, inflammation and the healing of any course of illness. As a thyroidologist, I manage all physical and psychological aspects thyroid problems, including thyroid hormone replacement, and thyroid cancer care including complementary therapies. I offer second opinions on thyroid or other endocrine issues for patients make more information for decision making in their care with other physicians. I believe I bring a different and multi-dimensional level of care and perspective for patients who have these imbalances or manifested diseases. I have been trained and continue to be involved with some of the best medical training institutions in the United States. Diabetes Care
This is not a routine or conventional endocrinology practice, if you want to just fix problem such as thyroid replacement, osteoporosis treatment, or routine thyroid cancer or diabetes care there are other great endocrinologists around to take care of these issues and who accept commercial insurances.
Endocrinology
ENDOCRINOLOGY. Dr. Olson evaluates, manages, and provides first and second opinions on all endocrine issues. The main focus is an integrative, whole-person, approach to endocrine conditions focused on thyroid, calcium and parathyroid and metabolism issues, disease prevention, and change of life hormonal transition and metabolic changes that affecting health, and aging. A whole-person Mind-Body-Spirit approach on healing and prevention through lifestyle, diet, gut health, and personal coaching is used.

Dr. Olson knows that having a long health lifespan matters and disease can be prevented or reversed. We have a choice about this. She believes in mind body spirit alignment to approach to healing and optimal health. Both the person and the disease need to be treated jointly. She recognizes that the quality of interaction and advice you receive in your health consultations significantly affect the decisions you make, and the direction and outcome of your health and wellness. Dr. Olson has been an educator and lecturer for medical trainees, doctors and lay audience for more than 30 years. She has lectured on topics of mind-body integration for wellness, integrative medicine, testosterone for women, thyroid issues and thyroid cancer, other endocrine-related topics, menopause and life transitions, and self care for doctors to prevent burnout and suicide. Nuclear Medicine
For a thyroid cancer evaluation or opinion: Bring a copy of surgery report by the surgeon, pathology findings as reported at the hospital you had your surgery, and of radioactive iodine treatments received at the nuclear medicine division of the hospital, so that the visit is most effective. Also bring your latest TSH and thyroglobulin results. I must tell you that if your problem is just thyroid cancer, money is an issue, and you are not seeking anything other than a good diagnosis and treatment, then I strongly recommend my dear colleagues at Yale or U Conn, who are excellent and trustworthy, with the management of your thyroid cancer.
