Really great care

I've seen both Palmer and Burke and they are both fantastic, not only are the good health care providers, knowledgable and patient they are also funny and comfortable to work with. As soon as I went in I knew that I wouldn't ever see anyone else for orthopedic needs.

Arthritis
2. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory type of arthritis that can destroy the joint cartilage. RA can occur at any age. RA generally affects both knees.
Family Practice
He currently serves on the board of the Idaho Medical Association. He has been on the Ada County Medical Society board, past President 2014. He served 10 years on the board of The Meridian Education Foundation, serving Meridian, Eagle, Star, and West Boise school districts. He served in the US Navy Reserve Medical Corp from 1988-1998. He also maintains a close affiliation with the Family Practice Residency of Idaho serving as a proctor. He continues with his position on the Advisory board for the Health Occupations Program of the Meridian School District.

MRI
Your doctor will perform a physical examination that focuses on your walk, the range of motion in the limb, and joint swelling or tenderness. X-rays typically show a loss of joint space in the affected knee. Blood and other special imaging tests such as an MRI may be needed to diagnose RA.
X-Rays

Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy allows an orthopaedic surgeon to diagnose and treat knee disorders by providing a clear view of the inside of the knee with small incisions, utilizing a pencil-sized instrument called an arthroscope. The scope contains optic fibers that transmit an image of your knee through a small camera to a television monitor. The TV image allows the surgeon to thoroughly examine the interior of your knee and determine the source of your problem. During the procedure, the surgeon also can insert surgical instruments through other small incisions in your knee to remove or repair damaged tissues.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is done on an outpatient basis. Usually three small incisions in the knee are used. The patient is begun on immediate weight-bearing and to move the knee as tolerated.
Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Palmer has lived in Boise since 1992. His practice includes arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and workers compensation injuries. A large part of his practice focuses on knee and shoulder injuries, with an emphasis on ligament reconstructive surgery.

We welcome you to our practice and appreciate the opportunity to provide your care. Orthopaedics involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Our office specializes in knee cartilage and ligament injuries, sports medicine, and shoulder injuries. We also treat fractures, general orthopaedic care and work compensation cases.
Physical Therapy
Conservative treatment of AC joint problems usually includes rest, modifying activities and ice as well as possible medication. A cortisone injection is sometimes given into the joint. Surgery is performed arthroscopically and the arthritic portion of the clavicle can be removed on an outpatient basis. Physical therapy and range of motion exercises are usually started right away, with most patients recovering excellent range of motion. Most patients can return to weight lifting and/or activities involving lifting above the shoulder within several months after surgery.

Ankle Sprain
Occasionally with an inversion injury that would normally cause an ankle sprain, a piece of bone can be pulled off. We refer to this as an avulsion fracture. Sometimes the ligament actually is stronger than the bony insertion point and an avulsion fracture will ensue. Often these can be treated conservatively either in a walking boot or an Air Cast. A more significant fracture may be treated with a cast or surgery. The bone usually fractured here is the end of the fibula which we call the "lateral malleolus.

Ankle Instability
The treatment of an ankle injury depends on the diagnosis of the exact problem. Typically, elevation, ice, and anti-inflammatory medications are helpful in all these situations. Avoid the application of heat for at least two weeks. Sometimes taping or an air stirrup are helpful. For more severe strains a cast or walking boot can be used. Physical therapy for ankle strengthening and motion is often used for more severe injuries. For those ankles that are unstable on x-ray or have an unstable fracture, surgery is indicated. In those instances where someone has recurrent ankle instability despite rehabilitation and conservative treatment, surgical repair of their ligaments can be performed.
Ankle Sprain
Other ankle injuries that can occur include calcaneus or talus fractures, an osteochondral fracture (a bony cartilage injury in the weight-bearing portion of the talus), peroneal tendon tears or subluxations, and subtalar injuries.
