Dental Examination
You may also need to get x-rays for your child at their first oral exam. However, we will only take x-rays if we think they are necessary, and if you approve. We use digital x-rays that are comfortable and convenient, and make it easy to take images of your child’s teeth and jaws.
X-rays
Pediatric dentists are particularly careful to minimize the exposure of child patients to radiation. With contemporary safeguards, the amount of radiation received in a dental X-ray examination is extremely small. In fact, dental X-rays represent a far smaller risk than undetected and untreated dental problems.

Teeth Cleaning
Our 13 & 3-year-olds have had great experiences at Dentistry for Children (on Parkcenter in SE Boise). We had our first appointments here in 2018. We see Dr. Davis. They have a large fish tank in waiting area (always a hit), it’s very clean, and everything is efficient— we haven’t had long wait times to be seen. Our 3-year-old hasn’t made it easy, but Dr. Davis has been able to take a peek at his teeth. I think these quick check-ins with the really young kids will prove helpful when they have their first real teeth-cleaning. Toddlers tend to be sensory sensitive!Our older one likes the TVs with headphones.Thank you Dentistry for Children!
Fluoride Treatment
Tooth cleaning and polishing and fluoride treatments are all part of your child’s prevention program. However there is much more. Your pediatric dentist is uniquely trained to develop a combination office and home preventive care to insure your child a happy smile.
Dental Sealants
Sealants protect the grooved and pitted surfaces of the teeth, especially the chewing surfaces of back teeth where most cavities in children are found. Made of clear or shaded plastic, sealants are applied to the teeth to help keep them cavity-free.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are appliances made of metal or plastic that are custom fit to your child’s mouth. They are small and unobtrusive in appearance. Most children easily adjust to them after the first few days.

Crowns
Kids may also suffer from tooth pain and toothaches, which may indicate a deep cavity or an infected tooth. While this is less common in kids than adults, children may also suffer from loose, damaged, or pulled-out dental work like a crown or filling.
Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry is particularly important for kids, who are highly susceptible to cavities. About 43% of kids between the ages of 2-19 have at least one cavity, and many kids get multiple cavities as they grow. If left untreated, cavities in baby teeth can lead to infected teeth and even tooth loss.

Pulpotomy
In a pulpotomy, your child’s tooth will be cleaned and then their mouth will be numbed. After this, your child’s dentist will open up the tooth, and clean out any infected material from the inside of the tooth. If the infection is not too extensive, your child’s dentist will apply a special healing dressing to the pulp.
Root Canal Treatment
A pulpotomy is also called a “baby root canal,” because it’s a similar procedure that’s used to treat a baby tooth that has become infected. However, pulpotomies are not quite as invasive as root canals. While root canals involve removing all of the pulp inside the tooth (pulpectomy), pulpotomies do not.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
To resolve tongue or lip ties, a frenectomy is usually recommended. As a rule, it’s best to treat tongue and lip ties with a frenectomy as early as possible. This is a very simple oral surgery, and it’s very safe.
Tooth Extractions
Wisdom teeth and other impacted teeth require surgical extraction because they are trapped underneath the gum line. Surgical extraction can also be necessary if you have a broken tooth that has broken at the gum line.

Orthodontics
Dr. Davis is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, the Idaho Dental Association, and a member of Gnathos Orthodontics. In 2007 he completed the Clinical Modification of Dentofacial Development, applied orthodontic and dentofacial treatment methods and continues to be an active member of Gnathos.

Braces
Most children need to see an orthodontist by the age of 7, but in some cases, your child may not start any orthodontic treatment until much later. For children who are at least 14 years old, there is an alternative to traditional metal braces that may be more appealing – for you as a parent and for your teen.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Davis grew up in Boise where he attended Boise High School and received his undergraduate degree from Boise State University. Dr. Davis then graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 2004. He owned and operated Alpine Heights Dentistry: a thriving family and cosmetic dentistry private practice in Meridian, ID for nine years. Dr. Davis found he had a special passion working with children and teenagers, and decided to pursue his career in Pediatric Dentistry. He completed his hospital base pediatric residency in 2015, and became Board Certified in 2016.
