Preventive Care

Dental Care
One-on-one time with Dr. Farmer to address any questions and/or concerns you may have about your pet's health, behavior, appetite, exercise habits, and activities. We encourage an open dialogue with you as our client, and encourage your involvement in the decisions regarding your pet's health care. Everything from dental care, arthritis, nutrition, immunizations and any lifestyle changes are encouraged for discussions
Vaccination
Feline Leukemia Vaccine. Feline Leukemia Vaccine is recommended for all kittens and is started at 8 weeks of age and then boostered at 12 weeks. Adult cats will be assessed yearly for their individual need of an FeLV vaccination.
Behavioral Counseling
During your puppy’s first appointment, we will talk with you about the services and products to help keep your puppy healthy and answer all of your questions. This includes information regarding heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention, house training, obedience training, microchipping, diet, dental hygiene, and veterinary health insurance options. The entire staff at Perky Paws is here to help answer your questions.
Nutritional Counseling
Maintaining a healthy, nutritional diet and overcoming weight challenges are not only problems for people! It is extremely important to the staff at Perky Paws Pet Hospital to provide as much support as possible for each pet owner as he or she determines the healthiest nutrition and diet choices for a beloved pet. Determining those best choices grows more confusing each day due to the overwhelming number of available pet food brands and conflicting online information.
Comprehensive Examination
Your dog or cat's health care begins with regular wellness exams. At Perky Paws Hospital, we recommend that all pets receive a complete physical examination at least once a year, though more frequent exams may be encouraged. Wellness exams play a critical role in both the prevention of common treatable illnesses and conditions and the early detection of any future health problems.

Additionally, your new family member will receive a Perky Paws Kitten Kit! This kitten kit is loaded with information and goodies, and a complimentary dose of heartworm and flea prevention.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
FVRCP Vaccine. This is a “4-way” feline vaccine that vaccinates against feline distemper (aka panleukopenia), rhinotrachetitis, calici, and chlamydia. Kittens can be vaccinated as early as 8 weeks and are boostered every 3 weeks until 16 weeks of age. Adult cats are then revaccinated yearly.

And because your pet is family, your pet's technician and Dr. Farmer will prepare an individual anesthetic plan, pain management schedule, and at-home care instructions. The entire team is available to ensure your questions and concerns are addressed and that your pet's surgery is as comfortable and safe as possible.

We offer a fully stocked, on-site pharmacy in order to provide you with a diverse inventory of prescription and non-prescription veterinary products and medications needed for wellness care, surgical care, nutritional care, and emergency situations. Our onsite pharmacy allows us to prescribe anitbiotics, anti-inflamatory medications, deworming medications, flea, tick,and heartworm preventative products, skin and coat care products, nutritional supplements and dental care products.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
Infectious Tracheobronchitis is a respiratory disease also known as kennel cough or canine bordatella. It is easily transmitted through the air. It is a viral infection complicated by bacteria. Both intranasal and injectable vaccines are available.
Intestinal Foreign Object Removal
Dr. Farmer's vast experience and skill allows our team to perform procedures from spays and neuters to general soft tissues procedures to emergency procedures (wound repairs, pyometra removal, foreign object removal, amongst others).

Infection Treatment

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease. It is spread by wildlife (raccoons, skunks, opossums, squirrels, rats) and domestic animals. It can be passed to people. Leptospirosis infection has risen dramatically in recent years. Infected animals shed bacteria in the urine. To prevent Lepto in your dog, discourage your pet from drinking standing water and vaccinate yearly.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
DA2PPL Vaccine. This is a “5-way” canine vaccine that vaccinates against canine distemper, parainfluenza, parvovirus, hepatitis and leptospirosis. Distemper and parvovirus are often times fatal, especially in puppies and is why it is boostered multiple times. Puppies can be vaccinated as early as 8 weeks and are boostered every 3 weeks until 16 weeks of age. Adult dogs are then revaccinated yearly.

Periodontal Disease Treatment
Dental disease involves more than just bad breath. Approximately 80% of patients that visit us on a daily basis need a professional teeth cleaning. When bacteria irritates the gum line, the gums become inflamed in the early phases of the disease causing gingivitis. Left untreated, this leads to periodontal disease which causes loss of the bone/support structure of the tooth and subsequent tooth loss. In addition, the bacteria is consistently released into the blood stream allowing for systemic infections which can cause organs, such as kidney, liver, and heart to function improperly.
