The McAlester Regional Family Medicine Residency Program began July 2014. The residency program at McAlester Regional is a three year program affiliated with OSU in partnership with the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma. Ultrasound
To safely examine many parts of the body, including expecting mothers and their unborn children, McAlester Regional Medical Center may utilize ultrasound. Its sound-wave technology allows the procedure to be non-invasive, yet still produce high-resolution images. Special techniques have furthered the use of ultrasound, allowing detecting and examining blood flow in the arteries and veins, and guiding minimally invasive procedures.
MRI
Radio waves and magnets help construct cross-sectional pictures of internal organs and structure for a Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI). This scan provides important diagnostic information that cannot be obtained with other imaging techniques. The MRI has become an essential tool of modern medical imaging and disease diagnosis thanks to its ability to provide a unique view into the interior of a human body.

This type of imaging offers guidance in performing minimally invasive procedures, either for diagnostic or treatment purposes. It’s a subspecialty of radiology that allows easier placements of needles, small tubes, or tiny catheters in the area of the body to be viewed and/or treated.
