Muddy Creek Pediatrics is committed to providing expert, comprehensive pediatric care for our families. We want to do everything we can to make care giving and decision-making easier for our patients and families, and for the other physicians, nurses and health care professionals that may be involved in managing your child’s health.
Primary Care
Your child should have a well child visit at the intervals listed below. We recommend that you call our office 3 months in advance to schedule an appointment with your child's primary care provider on the date and in the location that best fits your needs.
Ear Infections
Colds, upper respiratory infections, and URIs are common terms we use to describe viral illnesses that cause nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, fever, and cough. The fever usually lasts for 2-3 days, and the cough with congestion and runny nose may last for 5-10 days. The typical preschool-age child may experience 6-10 colds per year. Most colds resolve on their own with rest and fluids, but some may lead to ear infection, sinus infection, asthma attack, or other complications. If you are concerned about the possibility of one of these complications, please have your child seen in our office for an evaluation.
Emergency Care
Sometimes it’s hard to tell how sick your child is. Urgent care or a trip to the hospital is usually not needed for a simple cold or cough, mild diarrhea, constipation, temper tantrums, or sleep problems. However, if you are in doubt we encourage you to call the office during normal business hours to discuss your child’s illness with one of our nurses. We can help you decide if it is necessary for you to come see us. Same day appointments are available and may be scheduled by our nursing staff at the time of your call.

We recognize that there has been and always will be controversy surrounding vaccination. The vaccine campaign is truly a victim of its own success. It is precisely because vaccines are so effective at preventing illness that we are even discussing whether or not they should be given. Because of vaccines, many of us have never seen a child with polio, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), bacterial meningitis, or even chickenpox, or known a friend or family member whose child died of one of these diseases. Such success can make us complacent about vaccinating.

We firmly believe, based on all available literature, evidence, and current studies, that vaccines do not cause autism or other developmental disabilities.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
If your child is on medication for ADD/ADHD, they must be seen and evaluated in the office at least every 6 months, more often if symptoms are not under control and medication changes are frequently made. Most ADD/ADHD medications are controlled, Schedule II drugs, which require a hand written prescription that must be picked up and signed for by an adult, age 18 years or older, in the office each month. These prescriptions cannot be “called in” or mailed to a home, and cannot contain refills.

Behavioral health concerns (such as anxiety, depression, behavior problems, adjustment concerns) often arise in childhood and can impact youths’ functioning. We have found that for some patients these concerns have been amplified due to the pandemic. To help with these common concerns, we have a behavioral health specialist, Margaret (Peg) Reardon, LPCC-S, on our team. If you need additional support for your child, Peg will focus on your child’s psycho-social functioning and help teach you and your child strategies to reduce symptoms.

Cradle Cap is a noninfectious skin condition that’s very common in infants, usually beginning in the first weeks of life and slowly disappearing over a period of weeks or months. Unlike eczema or contact dermatitis, it’s rarely uncomfortable or itchy. It can spread to other areas of the skin and is then called seborrheic dermatitis. If it is confined to his scalp (and is, therefore, just cradle cap), you can treat it yourself.
