We are very fortunate to have ...

We are very fortunate to have the Animial Shelter in Marshall. The people who work and volunteer there are very committed to helping the animals and our community. The animals are well cared for. They work hard to find loving , good homes for the animals. Additionally, the Animal Shelter and League encourages people to spay and neuter their pets to help control over the homeless pet situation. Vouchers are available to help those who can not afford to have their pets neutered.

Be Prepared

When I decided to adopt a cat, I had my mind made up about the type of cat and color etc. that I was wanting. Never in a million years could I have prepared for this. My boyfriend and I decided to go to a pet smart store and get some suggestions on where the best place would be to find a good cat, and we just happened to be in there the same day that the "Salene Animal League" were there with cat's for adoption. We both fell in love with two of the cats and with in thirty minutes had finished our adoption papers and were on our way home new parents! That was a Saturday, and by Monday night I came home from work to find that one of my cats had bloody diarrhea. Knowing this isn't normal I took my cat to the doctor to find out that he had a parasite in his digestive tract. To top things off we notice our other cat was sneezing and coughing uncontrollably and ended up having to take him into the vet the very next day. Not only did we have to treat him for the parasite so he wouldn't catch it, but we also found out he had a viral infection and FLEAS! When I didn't think it could get any worse, my boyfriend and I neither one being very knowledgeable when it comes to health issues with animals had noticed that our cat we were told was neutered, didn't appear to be "missing" anything, if you know what I mean. So while at the vet for the sneezing and such we asked the vet to check just to be sure and if you can believe it, "No, ma'am you're cat is fully in tact" was what I heard! If you've taken the time to read this I hope you learn your lesson before it's too late. When I called to complain about having sick animals, the only numbers I could find for the "Salene Animal League" were home phone numbers. Come to find out they are a group of volunteers that work with the Marshall Animal Shelter. There was no office number or anything. When I finally got a hold of someone she told me to send copies of what I had and we would be refunded our adoption fees. Today is January 28th 2009 and I talked to her January 7th. Mailed my information in and still no check. After 3 vet visits later I have almost tripled what I purchased the cats for, in just 1 month. The viral infection is still present in our older cat and we still have to take him to get neutered and I'm sure we will not be reimbursed for that either. Thanks for reading this and I hope you can learn from my unfortunate lesson, the Marshall Animal Shelter is a joke and I think they need to be shut down for mistreating animals, not advising unknowing "customers" about animals being sick and lying about them being "fixed."
