Neapoli Cafe & Pizzeria

I've discovered a little gem in Malden's Maplewood Square. About six months ago I wandered into Neapoli Cafe & Pizzeria at 43 Lebanon Street in Malden. I got an avocado, Swiss and turkey roll up and was hooked. It was one of the best sandwiches for the money anywhere. Since then, I've made it a regular stop. Along with the usual pizza and subs fare, which is excellent, they have superb roll ups, special grinders, grilled sandwiches, club sandwiches, pasta and salads.



They have a wide variety of roll ups, from chicken kabob to jambalaya to grilled veggie. All use the freshest ingredients and I haven't been disappointed yet. Their special grinders include the Celtics - smoked turkey, roast beef, corned beef, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing. Another is the Boston College - chicken salad, bacon, lettuce and tomato.



They have ten grilled sandwiches to choose from on white, wheat, rye or multi-grain bread. These are my favorites; with ingredients such as roasted peppers, caramelized onions, avocado, fresh apple slices, walnuts, prosciutto and sauerkraut - there's something for everyone.



The pasta is very good and is served with warm garlic bread and a tossed salad. But, their homemade ravioli is my favorite. They have cheese, meat or lobster. Order it early in the week - it runs out fast.



On the lighter side, they have 13 types of salads. Some of them have several ingredient options as well, which accommodates a tremendous amount of choices. You never have to settle for the same old salad, which is great if you're on a diet.



One of the real surprises I found at Neapoli is the large array of desserts - 29 flavors of frozen yogurt, milkshakes, smoothies and several cakes and pies including triple chocolate cake, carrot cake and key lime pie.



Neapoli Café has one of the most extensive menus around, from comfort food to gourmet and everything in between, at very affordable prices. Oh yeah, the sweet potato fries are a must.
