Autoimmune Disorders: Diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, thyroid and Sjogren's syndrome can cause inflammation in the tear-producing lacrimal gland.
Emergency Care
These symptoms do not always indicate retinal detachment, but if you're experiencing them, you should go to an emergency room, call us or see one of our doctors as soon as possible.
Glaucoma is actually a group of eye diseases that lead to damage of the optic nerve (the bundle of nerve fibers that carries information from the eye to the brain), which can then lead to vision loss and the possibility of blindness.
Ophthalmology
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which results in blurred or defocused vision. According to a recent article published in the Archives of Ophthalmology, more than 20 million adults in the U.S. have developed cataracts making it the number one cause of poor vision in the United States. While not all cataracts require surgery, nearly 3 million cataract procedures are annually performed in the U.S. Cataracts cannot be prevented and are the leading cause of treatable blindness worldwide. According to the National Eye Institute, the number of Americans with cataracts is expected to rise to over 30 million people by the year 2020.
Macular Degeneration
Age related Macular Degeneration is traditionally described as a form of the disease which affects individuals over the age of 55 years. However, we have recently discovered that a significant number of these individuals may have a major genetic component that contributes to the disease.
Laser Eye Surgery
The ideal patient has not had a change in their prescription within the last year. This does not exclude candidacy for other patients who also may qualify. The surest way of defining your ability to fully benefit from LASIK, is to have your eyes examined.
Cataracts
The ReZoomâ„¢ Multifocal Lens procedure is an advanced treatment for cataracts that helps most people see near, far and everything in between without depending on glasses all the time.
Cataract Surgery
Before deciding to have Cataract surgery, you will need an initial examination to make sure your eyes are suitable for surgery. Your doctor will take a complete history about your medical and eye health and perform a thorough examination of both eyes.
Eye Exam
By having a consultation and eye examination at our office, our doctor will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for laser vision correction. Patients who are at least 18 years of age, have healthy eyes that are free from retinal problems, corneal scars, and any eye diseases are generally suitable.
Vision problems occur frequently among video display terminal (VDT) workers. Most worker health surveys show that the most frequent health related complaints among workers at VDTs are visually related. However, more public and professional attention is currently being directed towards the avoidance of musculoskeletal disorders such as wrist problems (e.g., Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), bursitis, muscle strains (e.g., neck tension syndrome), tendon disorders (e.g., de Quervain's disease), and tenosynovitis (e.g., trigger finger) among others. These disorders are generally classified as Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTD) or as Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI).
Multiple Sclerosis
Some causes associated with nystagmus are heredity, albinism, eye disorders like cataracts or strabismus, injury to the head, the use of certain medications, alcohol or drug use, multiple sclerosis, thiamine deficiency and central nervous system diseases.
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in American adults. It damages the blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive nerve tissue in your eye that sends visual images to your brain.
If the reasons for the nystagmus are suspected to be neurological, a CT scan or MRI scan may be necessary. Your doctor may decide your nystagmus is a result of another underlying medical condition and refer you to a specialist for a diagnosis.
Computed Tomography
Along with visual acuity testing, measurement of intraocular pressure, slit lamp examination, and ophthalmoscopy, the doctor may order blood tests to rule out diseases affecting the body. If involvement of the back of the eye is suspected, the doctor may order imaging tests such as CT Scan, MRI, or ultrasonography of the eye.
