Cool Hand Lukes

I loved this place. Everything about it was far above average. The atmosphere was comfortable and clean The wait staff were very friendly and capable. But most of all I loved the food. The steak and coconut shrimp were soooo tasty, not just a little bit, but really excellent. I have had steak at a lot of nicer restaurants and would chose the steak at Cool Hand Luke's anytime. The chopped chicken salad was also delicious, full of fresh strawberries, crisp apple, chunks of grilled chicken just to name a few of the items atop the crisp romaine lettuce. My husband and I are looking forward to our next business trip to Madera just so we can go back to Cool Hand Luke's again. Oh, almost forgot to mention the hot sourdough rolls..... yummy!

I thought I'd try this new to Madera restaurant. When I first walked in it looked nice and new enough. The booths are nice and roomy. The decor cabin-like. Our waiter Jon was nice enough. As I looked through the menu the first thing I noticed was the prices. Whow, a little on the high side. Almost no dinner under $15. Well I don't mind paying if its worth it so, I placed my order for the skirt steak with sauted mushrooms and a baked potato. First off came my iced tea in a very big mason jar. Next came some hard rolls with a small pot of spicy beans (for dipping is assume). Beans a little to spicy for my taste. Next came the house salad. This was my fav part of the meal. Tasty, fresh, lots of crunchies on top. And it wasn't long before my order came. This is where my evening went down hill. My skirt steak was over cooked. The mushrooms were a little disappointing but edible. My baked potato was good, big with butter, sour cream, chives. But thats was about it. Than the check came. That was the worst part. $16 for the dinner and $2 for the drink, with tax and tip over everything came to more than $20. I can't imagine the price if I would have brought my family of 5. With Sizzler having a similar meal with salad bar for about 10 bucks. I was disappointed. I don't think I'll be going back. Yukon Jacks, same atmosphere better prices.
