Medical Weight Loss

Primary Care
Prior to your surgery you will be required to return to our office for your pre-op evaluation. Our staff will go over your pre-op instructions, discuss any concerns you may have, review your lab tests and your post-op instructions. An EKG test may be performed, if you have seen your primary care doctor we will review their recommendations. Medication prescriptions will be given to you, this will give you a chance to fill your prescriptions prior to your surgery. When appropriate, some individuals will be required to meet with their anesthesiologist to discuss their medical history and post-operative pain control issues.
Smoking Cessation
We frequently need to consult with the patient’s medical physician to determine if an individual is fit for surgery. Obviously those individuals who are in the Wellness Clinic benefit from their exercise regimen and diet which contributes to a physically healthier person more fit for surgery. Individuals who use tobacco need to enter a smoking cessation program and must be tobacco free for 2 months prior to their surgery date. Patients regularly present with a variety of soft tissue and skin laxity problems after successful weight loss. Below is a list of the areas that Dr. Majzoub frequently encounters when dealing with weight loss patients.

Ultrasound
Minor variations in the instrumentation include ultrasound assisted liposuction (the instrument tip emits high frequency ultrasound), and external ultrasound assisted liposuction in which the body area to be treated is first conditioned with ultrasound. Louisville Plastic Surgery Consultants may recommend these variations depending on your physique and the body region to be treated.
Chemotherapy
Each reconstructive surgical procedure has its advantages and disadvantages. Some important considerations to think about include: the breath of the operation with its inherent surgical risks, the amount of time you want to spend reconstructing your breast, the donor site deficit and the impact it may have on your body, your physical health, the impact that chemotherapy and radiation may have on your healing at the reconstructive site or donor site, your surgical scars, the quality of your reconstruction with regard to its appearance.
Radiation Therapy
You may choose to have your breast reconstructed with a breast prosthesis. If you choose this route, you may have the option of immediate breast reconstruction in which Dr. Majzoub would place a tissue expander at your mastectomy site immediately following your mastectomy and begin gradual skin expansion of your chest skin in preparation for your implant at a later date. Dr. Majzoub and his staff will follow your progress in the office along with your general surgeon. Expansion of your chest skin will be coordinated around your chemotherapy or radiation therapy (if needed).

General Surgery
Dr. Majzoub, a double board-certified plastic surgeon with both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, returns to Louisville after working in a private cosmetic Plastic Surgery practice in the Greater Metro-Atlanta area. Dr. Majzoub is the medical director of Louisville Plastic Surgery Consultants, L.L.C., established to provide aesthetic and reconstructive Plastic Surgery services to the Greater Louisville area. Dr. Majzoub is a former graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. He completed his five-year categorical General Surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa before beginning his training in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Majzoub spent two years as a Graduate Research Fellow in the Department of Surgery at the University of Louisville studying the dynamics of composite tissue limb transplantation and the complexities of functional surgical muscle flaps used in reconstructive procedures. Dr. Majzoub completed his Plastic Surgery training at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation and spent an additional year at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas to complete his Hand Surgery and Microvascular surgical training.
Hand Surgery
Dr. Majzoub returned to the Cleveland area as a Post-Graduate Aesthetic Fellow at Case Western Reserve University under the guidance of internationally recognized facial plastic surgeon Dr. Bahman Guyuron, MD. Dr. Majzoub is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery and is eligible to sit for his Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery. He is committed to education and continues to actively publish in medical journals over topics ranging from facial cosmetic and reconstructive procedures to Hand Surgery.
Reconstructive Surgery
Breast reconstructive surgery has evolved with time. New medical procedures are available to help reconstruct breast tissue lost to breast cancer operations (mastectomy), congenital abnormalities or trauma. Your breast tissue can be reconstructed with your own tissue, for example, a rectus flap from your abdomen can be used to reconstruct your breast or in many cases, a prosthesis or breast implant can be used. If you are a women about to undergo a mastectomy you should consult with your general surgeon about your tumor surgery and investigate if you have the option to have your reconstructive procedure immediately following your mastectomy. Dr. Majzoub will work with your general surgeon to help determine if you are a candidate for breast reconstructive surgery using your own body tissue or a breast prosthesis (implant).

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
You do not need to pay a consultation fee for Botox® cosmetic, individuals scheduling appointments with our office have the privilege of a licensed plastic surgeon administer their Botox® and other designated treatments without a physician charge. Some spa procedures are coordinated with the medical staff, these arrangements will be made at the time of your appointment. Additionally, some spa products require a physician signature given they are not available over-the-counter.

Liposuction

Individuals with very large breasts may experience back, neck, and shoulder discomfort. In some cases, individuals also may have problems with skin rashes under their breasts. A breast reduction is a surgical procedure designed to reduce your breast size and place the nipples in a more youthful anatomic position. The procedure is performed through various incisions to shape the breast tissue. Most individuals report a dramatic improvement in their previous neck, shoulder and back discomfort. The procedure is usually performed at an outpatient facility.
Breast Lift
As a woman ages her breast tissue decreases in volume and the breast skin gradually sags. A breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the breast and move the nipple into a more youthful anatomic position. The procedure requires incisions around the nipple and often in the inframammary fold. If an individual has significant breast volume loss, a breast implant may be placed to restore lost volume and enhance the breast shape. The procedure is performed in an outpatient facility.

Thigh Lift
Individuals who have lost a large amount of weight often complain of excessive skin and subcutaneous tissue around their inner and outer thighs. This excess tissue may interfere with ambulation, make wearing clothes difficult and result in hygiene problems. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure designed to reduce excess skin and subcutaneous tissue from the inner and outer thigh regions. There are a variety of surgical approaches to address this body region, the procedure may be combine with other body sculpting procedures or staged as a separate operative procedure.
Face Lift
As individuals age, their neck skin and muscles become more lax and may begin to sag creating what is often referred to as a “turkey waddle.” The platysmaplasty is a surgical procedure which is designed to rejuvenate the neckline by lifting and tightening the platysma muscle, and in certain instances reducing unwanted fat. With this procedure skin is very rarely removed. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Dr. Majzoub prefers to make an incision under the chin in an inconspicuous region, the skin is separated from the platysma muscle and fat is reduced as needed from this region. The platysma muscle is divided in the midline and separated from the underlying tissue. Excess fat may be reduced from this region as well. In some cases additional small muscles in the neck may be removed. The platysma muscle is tightened in the midline, drains are placed in the neck region. The procedure requires 1.5-2 hours of operating time. Dr. Majzoub uses suture that dissolve to close the incision. This procedure is often combined with a face lift to address the aging face in conjunction with the neck.
Neck Lift
Most individuals do not experience much discomfort with a neck lift. You will be prescribed pain medication should you require it. You will have small drains placed at your operative site, these tubes prevent unwanted fluid from collecting at your operative site. You will need to change the suction tube portion of the drain every 6-8 hours over the first 24 hours. Patients are encouraged to ambulate shortly after surgery and perform breathing exercises. Patients should plan on 5 days to recover, bruising of the skin may last up to 2 weeks and can be camouflaged with makeup.
Abdominoplasty
After pregnancy or loss of considerable body weight many individuals experience difficulty in the abdominal region with excess skin, subcutaneous tissue and laxity in the rectus muscles. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a procedure designed to reduce excess skin and subcutaneous tissue from the abdominal region and tighten the midline abdominal muscles. This procedure helps to redefine your natural abdominal contour and reduces laxity from the abdominal wall. The procedure is performed through an incision hidden in the panty line.
Body Lift
Individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight after a bariatric procedure often encounter difficulty with excess soft tissue and skin in the abdominal region, buttock, and thighs. This soft tissue appears to hang off the torso and thigh areas, creating difficulty with hygiene, self-insecurities, and may interfere with ambulation. A body lift procedure is a surgical procedure designed to reduce excess skin and soft tissue over the torso, thighs and buttocks. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The incision is in the bikini line and is circumferential (all the way around the abdomen). Excess skin and soft tissue are reduced in the abdominal, thigh and buttock regions. The thigh and buttock tissue is undermined and lifted upward and secured tightly to the underlying fascia. Several drains are place around the operative field. The skin is closed with sutures. The procedure generally requires 5-6 hours of operating time.
Breast Surgery
Many individuals seek breast surgery for a variety of personal reasons. Body Contouring
A brachioplasty is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia usually as an outpatient. Depending on the extent of tissue to be reduced, the incision may be extended from the posterior aspect of the arm to the axilla (arm pit) and in some cases the incision can extend onto the lateral chest wall. The incisions may vary depending on your needs, they are usually well hidden. The operative site is closed with sutures that will be removed during your post-operative period. The procedure takes between 2-3 hours and in some cases Dr. Majzoub will combine it with other body contouring procedures.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breast from an overgrowth of the breast tissue. Most of the time gynecomastia is a benign condition, its etiology may not be determined. In some cases, males may experience gynecomastia from endocrine tumors, medication use, liver & kidney disease, and genetic disorders. In certain cases, Dr. Majzoub will need to work with your physician to determine the etiology of your gynecomastia.
Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Majzoub commonly performs cosmetic surgery of the body, breast and face. Procedures are performed in a variety of patient settings including private outpatient surgical facilities and hospital settings depending on your surgical requirements. For breast reconstructive procedures, Dr. Majzoub frequently works with local physicians to meet your reconstructive surgical needs. Many non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures are performed in the medispa located in our office. Bariatric Surgery
