Pediatric Care
The most effective treatment is still behavioral therapy based on functional analysis. Many studies now indicate that autistic children undergoing consistent and well design- ed behavioral intervention at a young age can often make tremendous strides. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics, in calling for early intervention, recommends a minimum of 25 hours a week, 12 months a year, of individual behavioral therapy.
Immunizations
This is despite of the fact that countless studies have proven otherwise, that there is no evidence whatsoever that indicates adversity of vaccines. A Wall Street Journal article written by Dr. Paul Offit shows that the highest resistance to vaccination occur in rich neighborhoods like Beverly Hills and Santa Monica where parents are highly educated. It is ironic that the vaccination rates in these rich, liberal neighborhoods are comparable to those in Chad or southern Sudan. Sadly, measles, having been declared eradicated in 2000, have returned this year with a record 600 cases, the largest in 20 years. "In 2010 California experienced an outbreak of whopping cough larger than any outbreak there since 1942.", Dr. Offit reported.

Autism
American Psychiatric Association's soon-to-be-released Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition, the DSM-V, recognizes the overuse of the label autism. The label gets out of hand as it evolves into another alphabet soup in the form of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Once the word 'spectrum' is inserted, the label casts a much bigger net and includes many disorders that share little of the original core characteristics, namely, social aloneness and inability to process multiple stimuli. Many friendly but socially awkward people are now called autistic, same as many formerly diagnosed Asperger persons. The result? The number of autistic people have increase more than six folds in the last 15 years.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
On the other hand, as a parent, his violin coach and his home school teacher, without the support of a point system, I found myself resorting to nagging him to stop playing videogame and start working, coaxing him not to quit the violin practice too early.
