Horrible doctor!!!! My mother refused to take her medication correctly and he did absolutely NOTHING. He often sleeps in sessions and as I said earlier, does not keep track of medication, just wants money.

Overall

As I see someone wrote in 2011, when having sessions with this man, he does have many interruptions. I faced a very similar problem. My sessions with Kelwala were ended after asking him if he could please no longer look at his phone during the sessions I was paying him for. Like the other user, he also told me he would no longer treat me/asked me to leave. His reaction was far more unreasonable than necessary as he acted like I had threatened him/verbally attacked him. He informed me that my rudeness was so impulsive and that he understands me being rude is a part of my illness but he cannot treat people/deal with people with Borderline Personality Disorder, although the fact that it was hurtful that he spent all three of our sessions consistently looking at his phone had nothing to do with my disorder. If you are a professional psychiatrist, you should be able to handle the field of personality disorders. In addition to this, he said Borderline Personality Disorder (which I have been diagnosed with by U of M psychiatric hospital wing) was a garbage diagnosis and that it is used to describe rude and obnoxious impulsive people to basically give them an excuse for being so; implying it was not a real disorder. When I confronted him asking if he would not think it was rude for me to use my phone throughout the session he told me he would not answer my question and that I will not get anywhere in life if I make rude statements such as "Would you please not use your phone during our sessions?" He also took a personal phone call in the middle of session while I was talking to tell his wife he would be home late and left the room to speak to another patient in the waiting room abruptly. It would be different if he would have simply said, "This is an emergency, please give me a moment," but the situation was not an emergency and he just interrupts you mid-sentence to focus on other matters that seem much more pressing than the patient in front of him. This is extremely rude on his end and I am shocked that there are five star ratings on him. He told me I cannot change him because you cannot teach an old dog new tricks but that he can change me because I am still young. The people who work in his office are also inconsiderate and always look as if they are unhappy with their job, especially the younger receptionist who is frequently there. To make matters more baffling, Kelwala prescribed me Adderall for weight loss as a way to deal with my bulimia. Adderall is not designed to be a weight loss tool but a medication side effect. Adderall is supposed to be prescribed for concentration issues. When I told him my fear of my teeth falling out and decaying because of making myself vomit, he said "You see a psychologist, can she not help you more than I can?" There are many parts of me looking at the big picture now that are grateful I must seek a new psychiatrist as this man is the most unprofessional I have yet to meet.

This psychiatrist is truly a professional. He seems especially proficient at dream interpretation. He is pleasant to speak with and always takes time to get your input about your thoughts and behavior. I'd rate him among the most intelligent and considerate physicians I've ever encountered. You won't be disappointed with his services or staff.

He was by far one of the best doctors I've ever seen. It was obvious he's been exceeding clients' expectations for many years. He is very considerate of one's time and privacy. I'm confident he always has my best interest at heart. He always makes an extra effort to be polite and courteous. I've never seen anyone who is more respected by their staff. The entire staff only had great things to say about working there. I was very glad my appointments went the way they did. He was so much more knowledgeable than I ever expected him to be and he provided fantastic professional advice.

This physician is outstanding....

This physician is outstanding. He helps patients be introspective, he's considerate, pays great attention to detail, is very observant, creative, a gentleman and very timely. He's considerate of a patient's time and privacy. He shares his thoughts and expertise with the public through blogs and other media. I find it amazing that he has the patience to deal with the unbelievable complexities of the mind and the myriad of problematic patients he must treat. He's most definitely a credit to his profession and our community. I'd enthusiastically recommend him to anyone and I'm grateful we have professionals like this available.

If you don't mind interruptions...

I went to see this doctor, and in the first 10 minutes, he took a personal phone call from someone, and his receptionist walked in with a perfunctory knock and had him sign some papers. When I asked the doctor to see me without interruptions, he said "this won't work" and asked me to leave. So if you don't mind having every interruption to your therapy session, including personal calls (not an emergency) then this is the guy for you. I think he prefers passive, submissive patients.

patient barbaral. r

i have been a patient of dr. kalwala's since aug. 2007. he is the best doctor i have ever had. he is so nice and very smart. he listens to me and really is interested in what i have to say. when i began my first visit i was very depressed, unhappy sad addicted to painkillers. i was in terrible shape. now 9 months later, i am a happy well-adjusted human being. i highly recommend dr. kalwala for anyone that is seeking professional help. you won't be disapointed, you will be the person you were meant to be. the staff is also wonderful. they care too. when i walk in the office i feel welcomed. i will always be grateful to them, especially the doctor himself. DR. KALWALA. fondly, barbara r.
