General Info

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department administers a range of traffic safety programs related to roadways and railroad crossings. It specializes in the development, operation and maintenance of highway and transportation systems. The department administers the Small Urbanized Area Formula, Non-Urbanized Area Formula, Elderly and Disabled Capital, Metropolitan Planning Organization Planning, and State Planning and Research programs. It promotes funding to construct and maintain transportation infrastructure, as well as coordinates highway planning with other modes of transportation. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department also promotes intermodal transportation activities through air, transit, waterways, highways, rails and pipelines.
