Founded in 1978, The Nebraska State Historical Society operates a network of historical facilities and collects and preserves various historical objects and artifacts. It operates the Museum of Nebraska History that exhibits and collects various artifacts and paper items. The society also operates Chimney Rock, which is a national historical site. In addition, The Nebraska State Historical Society maintains Neligh Mill, Lincoln Children s Museum and Fort Robinson Museum. It operates an archeological department that preserves prehistorical and historical sites. The society s conservation department has modern laboratories for the conservation of historical documents, textiles and museum objects. Located in Lincoln, Neb., the Nebraska State Historical Society additionally collects, manages and preserves published and unpublished documentary materials.
