My elderly parents hired him to overhaul our player piano. This was in 1988. Our piano was 100 years old and in great condition. He talked them into replacing the ivory keys with (outrageously priced) plastic keys, convincing them that the ivory keys were broken. When I found out he was scamming my parents, I called him. I told him I knew those Ivory keys were not broken. I told him it was not right to scam elderly people like that.
At that time there was lots of talk in the news about making it illegal to sell and buy Ivory. So the price of ivory skyrocketed and you could make a lot of money off of selling ivory.
I told him I wanted those Ivory keys back. He told me I was "welcome to come get them they were in his shed with everyone else's." Long story short he scammed my elderly parents, devalued our piano by a lot, and laughed when I confronted him.
