The Police Department is a law enforcement agency that works for the safety and protection of citizens. It offers crime suppression and prevention, patrolling and traffic control services. The department operates an investigation division that consists of records, detective, juvenile, and evidence and property management bureaus, as well as a canine unit. The Police Department has a communication bureau that responds to 911 calls. The department provides community programs that include neighborhood crime watch, operation identification, vacant house inspection, business and commercial protective measures, and residential and commercial security surveys. It offers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education and Gang Resistance Education and Training programs for youths. The department is governed by the Township of Lawrence in New Jersey.
