I have written custom FIT engineered judgments to reconcile complex firestopping issues. With changes to UL 1479 test standard to more clearly address membrane penetrations. These penetrations have become a focus for inspections. For example. City center presented a situation where there were LOW voltage cabinets in the rated demising walls between rooms. (and gypsum was NOT viable. ) the solution: we went to work by sending a cabinet to 3M. Tested it with a MAT material on the outside of the BOX and earned a UL listing for 1 and 2 hours with equal F and T ratings. We proceeded to wrap 4200 boxes in OUR shop. Realizing it was NOT practical to have cabinets sent to US to wrap from ALL over the country. We began working to develop a product that could BE easily inserted into the wall for fire protection OUT in the field. And with a NEW product development Company formed. FIRESHIELD. LLC. We proceeded to GET to work developing membrane penetration systems that would BE easy installs and code compliant. “barricade”. Is OUR UL listed membrane penetration answer for cabinet fire protection. Building officials started to focus on other membrane penetration systems. The lack of fire protection for shower valves was an industry problem in need of a fire protection. Code compliant system. FIRESHIELD. LLC created the “Barri BOX” shower valve solution. Currently. These systems are being used locally and across the united states. These membrane penetration systems have solved the problem.
