Immunizations
Parents of an infant in Hawaii were charged with the murder of their baby after it was determined that he had died of Shaken Baby Syndrome. After a careful review of medical and psychological records, Dr. Hopper determined that the baby was not shaken and died of v accine-induced encephalopathy. It is important to note that parents are sometimes accused of child abuse or murder when infants often suffer cerebral bleeds due to vaccinations. There is considerable documentation of deaths due to vaccinations which continues to fuel the arguments against vaccinations. (cont)

Ophthalmologists

Laser Eye Surgery
Betty was a 50-year-old woman who had suffered from failed lasik surgery to correct her vision. Later surgery to try and fix her vision also failed and she was left with even worse vision. Because her condition was only described as a failed lasik surgery and her visual acuity was not severe enough to classify her as blind, her disability case was denied. When her complete medical condition was provided to Social Security, it was found that she also suffered from severe depression, anxiety, heart problems, sleep disturbance, and had other problems with her vision not reported. She was unable to drive, read books or computer screens, judge depth, which caused her to trip, fall, or hit her head. Once her complete information was properly presented, her disability claim was approved.

Neurology
The University of Iowa College of Medicine has invited Dr. Hopper to be part of a "Sleep Disorders and Neurology" delegation of doctors representing the United States in educating Chinese doctors in sleep medicine (somnology) throughout all the major medical centers and universities in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, and Suzhou China this summer. The doctors are from various locations around the United States and were invited due to their backgrounds, experience, and expertise in the field of somnology.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Genetic test results are often quite useful in getting pre-authorization for certain medications. Basic DNA testing may be performed for major drug metabolizing enzymes. The Comprehensive polypharmacy DNA test will assess the Basic major drug metabolizing enzymes and a wide variety of additional psychotropic, analgesic, cardiac, ADHD, and other important enzymes. Carriers of certain HLA polymorphisms are at risk for severe hypersensitivity when given certain medications, including abacavir, allopurinol, phenytoin and carbamazepine. An additional HLA test panel is available.

The first step in stress management is to identify the stressors and the type of distress they are creating as well as the health problems being created by them. Next, it is important to establish desired goals relative to the stressors and then developstrategies needed to convert the distress into eustress.
