The Water Replenishment District of Southern California, also known as WRD, is a groundwater management agency that serves more than 4 million individuals in over 40 cities of southern Los Angeles County in California. Its service area is spread over nearly 420 square miles and utilizes approximately 250,000 acre feet of groundwater annually. Established in 1959, the Water Replenishment District of Southern California provides online information related to water conservation and replenishment. The district works to replenish groundwater resources through the capture of stormwater runoff, as well as by purchasing recycled and imported water and injecting into aquifers. It offers the Educational Partnership Program, which include water education, field trips, student essay contests and literature for teachers. Additionally, the Water Replenishment District of Southern California manages various projects, such as Whittier Narrows Conservation Pool, Seawater Barrier Improvement Program and San Gabriel River Rubber Dams.
